Role Purpose:
As a key member of the Gene Therapy Analytical Development Chemistry (AD-Chem) team, the successful candidate will independently design, execute, interpret, and communicate complex analytical studies supporting gene therapy product development. The individual will apply scientific expertise to characterize product quality attributes, develop and optimize analytical methods, solve analytical challenges, and generate data that advances development programs. The role serves as a key technical contributor within multidisciplinary project teams and supports innovation in gene therapy analytics. 

About the Role

What You Will Be Doing 

  • Independently design, execute, analyze, and report analytical studies supporting gene therapy development programs.  
  • Develop, optimize, qualify, and transfer analytical methods for product characterization, process development, and stability assessment.  
  • Apply scientific expertise to troubleshoot analytical challenges and provide data-driven solutions.  
  • Perform characterization studies using chromatography(LC), capillary electrophoresis(CE), and biophysical analytical techniques.
  • Contribute analytical expertise to cross-functional project teams and effectively communicate scientific findings and recommendations.  
  • Author and review technical reports, qualification documents, SOPs, and regulatory-supporting documentation.  
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and contribute to continuous improvement of analytical capabilities.  
  • Mentor junior scientists and foster a collaborative, innovative, and quality-focused work environment.  
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, data integrity requirements, and Novartis quality standards.  

 

What You Will Bring to the Role 

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related discipline with 3+ years of relevant industry experience; OR MS with 4+ years; OR BS with 5+ years.  
  • Strong scientific foundation in analytical chemistry, protein chemistry, nucleic acid chemistry, or related disciplines.  
  • Experience with analytical characterization of biologics, viral vectors, or gene therapy products.  
  • Hands-on experience with one or more analytical platforms such as HPLC/UPLC, CE-SDS, icIEF, SEC-MALS, AUC, mass spectrometry, or particle characterization techniques.  
  • Demonstrated ability to independently design studies, analyze complex datasets, and solve technical challenges.  
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.  
  • Experience with analytical method qualification, transfer, validation, and GMP documentation is preferred.  
  • Experience supporting AAV and/or lentiviral vector development programs is preferred.  

The salary for this position is expected to range between $103,600 and $192,400 per year. The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors.

Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.
