Our ambition is to be a catalyst for positive change and a leader in environmental sustainability. Our continued investment in our planet supports our purpose to reimagine medicine to improve and extend people’s lives. It is also a way to build trust with society, if our actions are guided by a commitment to transparency and creating enduring change.

Planetary health is human health

The planetary emergency is creating a human health crisis we cannot ignore. In her NY Times article, our Chief Sustainability Officer, Montse Montaner, explains why the time to act is now.

Our Strategy and Targets

We aim to drive sustainability through our own operations, as well as those of our suppliers, and we have set ambitious targets to minimize our impacts on climate, waste and water.

Science Based Targets

Novartis is proud to participate in the Science Based Targets initiative, which champions science-based target setting as a powerful way of boosting companies’ competitive advantage in the transition to the low-carbon economy. The initiative is a collaboration between the not-for-profit CDP, United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), World Resources Institute (WRI) and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and is one of the We Mean Business Coalition commitments.

Novartis has committed to set science-based emissions reduction targets across our entire value chain that are consistent with keeping global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Within the scope of this commitment, we have joined Business Ambition for 1.5°C and have also become part of Race to Zero, the UN-backed campaign led by the High-Level Champions for Climate Action.
