The main responsibility of this role is to lead, develop, implement, and oversee effective Health, Safety Environment (HSE), Novartis Emergency Management (NEM) systems in line with local, regional, and global expectations. This involves technical support for numerous Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) activities following established processes and lead effective implementation to the daily operations of the function.
To provide expertise in a specialized aspect of Health Safety Environment or Environmental Sustainability to the business and advice to ensure adherence to legal and Company internal documents in HSE on site for internals, externals.

As the HSE Specialist, you will be a member of the Indianapolis HSE Team and support our Indy campus which includes a Radioligand Therapy (RLT) drug manufacturing plant. Your responsibilities will evolve as the campus grows, develops, and matures.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Interprets, communicates and implements programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable HSE regulations
  • Identify, assess and document Health, Safety and Environment risks to the employees and third parties at work (analysis of work areas) and recommend the necessary technical, Organization and personal protective measures in collaboration with the site HSE Team.
  • Support and/or conduct incident investigations and corrective/preventive action implementation
  • Partner closely with internal cross-functional stakeholders to communicate, secure support, and inform the facility of HSE compliance risks and gain alignment on HSE initiatives and priorities
  • Manage HSE information and compliance activities using the site EHS management system including data collection, modeling, trending, tracking and communication of relevant EHS metrics.

Essential Requirements

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in a Health and Safety role.
  • Experience building an injury and error-free culture with knowledge of multiple US compliance areas (EPA, OSHA, NRC, etc.) is required.
  • Hazardous Waste Management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene, health and safety, engineering, or related field or a minimum of 4 additional years of relevant experience in lieu of degree

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience in a cGMP environment
  • Prior experience or training in radiation safety

Benefits & Rewards

The salary for this position is expected to range between $ 89,600 and $166,400 per year. The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors. Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.
