Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, curious, and highly motivated proteomics expert to join our Discovery Sciences Translational Profiling (TP) team in Basel. TP is a global group of experts in proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, super-resolution microscopy, and data science, within Novartis Biomedical Research at our sites in Basel, Switzerland and Cambridge, US.
As a Senior Principal Scientist, you will lead a proteomics lab team, play a pivotal role in advancing our cutting-edge technologies and contribute to our global proteomics strategy. This role involves collaboration with scientists, project teams, and five disease areas across Novartis Biomedical Research, all dedicated to creating and delivering transformative therapeutics to patients worldwide.

About the Role

Internal Job Title: Senior Principal Scientist

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Initiate, lead, and oversee high-impact proteomics analyses across drug discovery programs, from early research to translational studies involving patient samples.
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary research programs within a collaborative, matrixed environment, partnering across internal cross-functional teams and with external collaborators.
  • Maintain a state-of-the-art proteomics platform by staying abreast of technological advancements and aligning capabilities with internal project needs and application priorities.
  • Drive innovation in biomedical research by championing advanced technologies and cross-disciplinary initiatives, enabling novel applications of proteomics, such as low-input and spatial proteomics.
  • Coach and mentor junior scientists, support project teams, and facilitate the work of direct/matrix reports and key collaborators. 

Essential Requirements:

  • PhD in biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline, with a minimum of five years of academic experience in proteomics applied to biomedical research, or comparable experience in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with proteomics approaches and technologies, with key applications in biomedical and translational research as demonstrated by a strong publication record and significant contributions to the proteomics field. 
  • Strong data science skills with a solid understanding of biostatistical principles.
  • Proven ability to lead a cross-functional team in a matrix environment.
  • Collaborative, innovative mindset with the ability to adapt quickly to a dynamic, fast-paced, multi-disciplinary research environment. 
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills for multidisciplinary audiences across various seniority and expertise levels.

Desirable Requirements: 

  • Experience with pathway analysis and multi-omics data integration as well as knowledge of advanced data science approaches, including skills in Python and/or R. 
  • Expertise in spatial and low input proteomics.

Expected Annual Base Salary Range for role: CHF 126.000 - CHF 234.000

  

The base salary offered is determined based on gender-neutral objectives, such as relevant skills, competencies and experience in accordance with the Novartis pay setting policy and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically.
