Summary

The Medical Lead / Manager drives the strategic and scientific leadership for assigned therapeutic areas by translating global, international, and local medical strategies into impactful country execution. The role provides expert medical guidance, shapes scientific exchange, strengthens external engagement, and ensures high scientific rigor in all medical initiatives. It partners cross‑functionally to deliver medical education, insight generation, evidence contributions, and compliant scientific dialogue, supporting lifecycle management and patient‑centric outcomes. The Medical Lead acts as a key scientific ambassador and connector between internal teams and external medical communities.

About the Role

Major accountabilities:

  • Medical Education & Scientific Communication
    • Design and execute medical education initiatives, including webinars, scientific sessions, and TA‑specific learning programs.
    • Organize pre‑, during‑, and post‑congress activities in collaboration with cross‑functional teams.
    • Produce, adapt, and ensure quality of scientific materials (publications, slide decks, external presentations).
    • Ensure all content and all scientific, clinical, and educational activities adhere to ERC, local laws, medical governance, and internal compliance standards.
  •   Scientific Engagement
    • Leads high-level scientific engagement with senior MEs, peer‑to‑peer scientific exchange with Medical Experts and HCP networks, fostering credible, unbiased scientific dialogue.
    • Build and sustain strong scientific relationships with rising stars, KOLs, and expert communities.
    • Implement external scientific engagement activities, including advisory interactions, expert meetings, and scientific discussions.
    • Ensure compliant, evidence‑based interactions consistently aligned with Novartis governance.
  •   Insight Generation & Evidence Contribution
    • Gather actionable external insights from HCPs, MEs, congresses, real‑world practice, and scientific interactions.
    • Synthesize insights to influence TA strategy, identify evidence gaps, and shape medical priorities.
    • Contribute to local evidence needs by designing and supporting feasibility, clinical alignment, scientific rationale, and publication activities.
    • Partner with clinical teams on early research questions, clinical planning, and evidence translation.
    • Contribute to market access readiness in collaboration with V&A by informing the market access dossier with clinical attributes and patient-related outcomes
  •   Medical Community & Partnerships Building
    • Build partnerships with medical societies, academic institutions, and scientific collaborators.
    • Represent Novartis as a credible scientific voice at congresses, scientific events, and expert forums.
    • Strengthen connections across the medical ecosystem to support joint value creation and external collaboration.
  •   Leadership (only if required)
    • Foster an engaged, high-performance culture with clear goals, coaching, and ongoing development.
    • Attract future ready talents, help them grow, and keep them engaged; strengthen succession and capability across the country organization.
    • Lead by example with Novartis Leadership Expectations, encouraging transformation, strong performance, and a growth mindset.
  • Reporting of technical complaints / adverse events / special case scenarios related to Novartis products within 24 hours of receipt.

  • Quality, depth & credibility of peer‑to‑peer scientific engagement.
  • Impact and execution quality of medical education and congress activities.
  • Deep knowledge of RWE and data generation processes.
  • Quality and relevance of medical materials and scientific communication.
  • Timeliness and quality of insight generation and integration into TA planning.
  • Strength and quality of partnerships with MEs and scientific societies.
  • Compliance with medical governance and ERC requirements.
  • Cross‑functional alignment and effectiveness.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum education degree in MD, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent advanced scientific degree.

Experiences:

  • Experience in Medical Affairs, customer‑facing scientific roles, cross‑functional collaboration, external engagement, clinical study design, clinical/scientific communication; 2–3+ years in medical/clinical roles preferred.

Functional Capabilities:

  • Scientific expertise; ability to interpret clinical data; insight analysis; ability to create/adapt scientific content; experience with cross‑functional leadership.
  • Ability to identify data gaps and design clinical studies
  • Ability in developing/adapting scientific communication and medical education materials.
