Summary

The purpose of this role is to provide specialized support to all Novartis businesses in rela-tion to customs and international trade related matters. The role has a strong focus on de-nied party screening as part of embargo and sanction due diligence process and customs classification. In addition, country of origin review and determination are in scope, as well as KPI measures and reporting for or on behalf of Global Customs and Trade Compliance team. Act in accordance with legislation, internal rules, good practices and business objectives.

About the Role

Customs and Trade Expertise
• Excellent understanding of embargoes and sanctions currently in place including screening process, potential match assessment, release or escalation 
• Able to fully manage activities related to Country of Origin calculation and determination: rules of origin, insufficient workings, cumulation under the relevant Free Trade Agree-ments
• Accountable for the correctness of customs classification for material in scope globally
• Act as an advisor when required to Novartis business if customs classification needs further explanation or training, where the country Customs Authorities have initiated a review of the classification
• Prepare and present reports on customs and trade compliance matters  
• Manage export controls including classification, management and monitoring of license application for controlled goods and/or embargo and sanction territories
• Support activities related to post-entry import and export declaration checks

Cross Functions and External Collaboration
• Act as Group Head’s deputy responsible in the case of her/his absence or as required
• Collaborate within the team and Novartis businesses to achieve objectives in Customs and Trade matters

Leadership Skills
• Support manager on people management and career development
• Support the team on general CTC training and ownership of written procedures
• Onboard new joiners, regarding technical or specific International Trade matters

Communication Skills
• Effectively communicate with a variety of teams and colleagues at different level of sen-iority
• Advise and escalate to manager and the Global CTC function immediately of any com-pliance related issues
• Able to clearly explain and guide regarding complex sanctions and classification matters 

- Responsibility for personal and professional development.
- Providing conditions for and control of the implementation of HSE tasks and requirements in the unit.
- Other tasks determined during the annual objectives setting process and by KPIs.
- Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor, and tasks based on a specific appointment. 

Minimum 3 years of experience in customs and international trade function.
