About the Role

Job Purpose

The Head of Operational Excellence, Clinical Development will be accountable for leading key strategic global operational excellence activities across the CD function. The role will support strategic planning and operational execution in partnership with the Head Portfolio Strategy and Operations in key domains of the CD agenda:
- Growth, development, and optimization of the Clinical Development global footprint, including specialized capability advancement and talent development in Hyderabad
- Designing and Implementing CD solutions and processes, for talent development and capability management in Hyderabad
- Designing and implementing global Change Management initiatives to achieve world-class skills, knowledge, and competencies for Clinical Development associates.
The role will foster efficient connectivity and drive operational matters across the function, notably with the Program Excellence team, P&O partners, Development learning, Communications, CD Functional Heads and people managers within the CD organization. This role will ensure the CD function can leverage our global capability centers and expanded geographic footprint of the CD organization (e.g. Hyderabad, Ireland, UK).

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Establish Clinical Development India as a recognized CD footprint :

• Accountable for designing, driving, evolving and executing CD India strategic vision of the future in close collaboration with CD global and DEV global strategy.
• Collaborate with P&O, Learning, and local CD managers to establish a cohesive structured approach to growing the local CD team in both size and capabilities.
• Represent and be voice of CD Community in Hyderabad in Site Leadership Team of Development India (a Site Head) and support the local team of GPCHs (Global Clinical Program Heads), Clinical Development Directors (CDDs) and Clinical Development Medical Directors (CDMDs) to strengthen their sense of a unified local CD community.
• Provide strategic oversight on planning and execution of local community building events, capability building initiatives in Hyderabad
• Facilitate knowledge sharing and best practices exchanges with Global CD teams to ensure CD India is able to develop world-class talent
• Partner with the Head Clinical Scientific Experts (CSEs): To build and foster a career development path for CSEs to more senior roles across the organization and within CD LF; Support change initiatives.
• Support local CD leaders in developing a strategy for and in executing an internal fellowship program and support trained clinical senior talent sourcing from outside Novartis, partnering with the Global Early Talent Head

Portfolio and project leadership of global talent development and capability building initiatives.

• Support the Global Head Portfolio Strategy and Operations in developing a comprehensive capability development strategy aligned with the organization’s goals.
• Coordinate in partnership with Talent, Capability and Communications partners across the function the planning, scheduling, and logistics of talent development initiatives, such as training programs, workshops, mentoring programs, and leadership development programs
• Collaborate with P&O, CD SMEs, and department leaders to conduct ongoing needs assessments to identify skill gaps and development opportunities within the organization. Establish evaluation metrics and mechanisms to assess the effectiveness and impact of capability development programs.
• Design, perform strategic planning and support the setup of external partnerships (e.g. with Universities) and collaborations to enhance the footprint of CD India and provide a pipeline of talent. Manage vendor relationships (e.g. external experts/anlaysis) and performance.
• Plans and coordinate the annual CD promotion reviews in collaboration with the CDFHs (Clinical development functional Heads), support the CDLT to elaborate career development pathways for CD associates
• Support initiatives to drive the goal of high operational performance, building future capabilities in Hyderabad and optimized operating models

Change Management, Engagement & Culture

• Support initiatives to foster a learning culture across the CD teams
• Orchestrate dynamic networks of SMEs to enhance mindset of cross-DU on-the-job coaching on core CD professional know-how
• Lead change initiatives and track progress
• Drive best practices across CD for change management
• Build close relationships, and collaborate with partnering functions to shape enterprise thinking within CD

Role Requirements

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE:

• Master degree or equivalent; degree in Business Administration or related field a plus
• 5+ years relevant industry experience with a fundamental understanding of Clinical Drug Development
• Change management expertise, with the ability to navigate and drive change within the organization
• Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
• Track record in enabling effective international collaboration
• Strong evidence of strategic thinking, problem solving capabilities
• Proven track record in working across a matrix organization and demonstrating expert skills in building partnerships and negotiating agreements; Excel at collaboration.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels;
• Outstanding verbal and written communications
• Proficient in using online platforms and relevant technology tools
