About the Role

Internal Job Title: Discovery Postdoctoral Fellow

Location: Onsite, Cambridge, MA

About the role:

Come join Novartis Biomedical Research as a Discovery Fellow and help investigate the underlying mechanisms driving cellular phenotypes associated with chronic inflammation and develop innovative ways to restore cellular homeostasis.

You'll be part of Disease Area Exploratory X (DAx) and Discovery Sciences (DSc) in Cambridge, MA, where you will focus on examining the biology behind disease-driving cell types by leveraging your translational and genetic expertise, and available patient-derived gene signatures. Specifically, you will investigate the mechanisms behind cellular phenotypes associated with chronic inflammation and develop approaches to restore normal cellular states and create translationally-relevant in vitro models.
We are looking for a motivated scientist who can work across the matrix, and is capable of seamlessly navigating both laboratory-based experimentation and data mining responsibilities in a balanced manner (50/50 split). You will be responsible for envisioning a roadmap for scientific execution, bridging the gap between experimental work and data analysis. The outcomes of your work will contribute valuable insights to the broader scientific community and have the potential to advance our cross-organ disease drug discovery endeavors specifically focused on chronic inflammation.

Discovery Fellows have a unique opportunity to conduct innovative, interdisciplinary research and are expected to publish their results in leading journals. We collaborate across scientific and organizational boundaries, with a focus on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients. You will join our postdoctoral community for dedicated events, including the monthly postdoctoral seminars and our annual Research Day Symposium. All Fellows participate to our robust curriculum designed to develop scientific and professional skills. The postdoctoral term is up to 4 years.

Key responsibilities:

As a Discovery Fellow, you will:

• Design and execute experiments to develop innovative in vitro models of disease-driving cell types, with a focus on macrophages and other immune cells.
• Utilize advanced techniques and omics-informed approaches to construct patient-derived gene signatures and enhance the translational relevance of the models.
• Optimize and validate the models using a (few) targets with a vision to facilitate the publication process and scientific knowledge dissemination.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of drug hunters to contribute to the understanding of inflammatory processes and support drug discovery efforts.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements and breakthroughs in chronic inflammation research to drive innovation and sharing of knowledge.
• Communicate research findings through presentations, reports, and scientific publications, contributing to the scientific and Novartis community's understanding of chronic inflammatory diseases.
