About the Role

The Director of Congress Strategy and Orchestration (CS&O) is a headquarter based role responsible for orchestrating and executing the congress strategy for our principal US congresses for the key promoted brands across our core therapeutic areas. The role is also responsible for leading the department of 4-8 professionals.
In their functional capacity, the Director will adopt and evolve our “One Novartis” congress vision that establishes Novartis (and the key brands) as a committed innovative patient-focused best-in-class leader - across our core therapeutic areas. The Director will enable the collaboration and coordination of the CS&O team with key stakeholders (Marketing Strategy, CMAR, Sales Leadership, Medical Affairs, etc.) to integrate the functional strategies into a comprehensive congress strategy for approximately 40 US Tier 1 and selected Tier 2 congresses for the key promoted brands. In addition, the Director will ensure the development and delivery of commercial congress objectives, congress plans and budgets, by the CS&O team, for each of their respective therapeutic area. The Director is also responsible to identify, implement and scale congress metrics and customer feedback to inform decision making regarding investments, strategy development, resource utilization, new tools/platforms, and best practice sharing across the teams.
As a people leader, the Director will be responsible for engaging and developing the individuals within the team. The Director will be responsible for performance management of the team and individuals including prioritization and objective setting. In addition, the Director will provide input into the design and structure of the team, including the replacement of individuals as required. The Director will develop, implement, and maintain - training requirements for the role, high scientific knowledge of the disease states and responsible products, and the platforms, technology, processes, and materials that enable the team. The Director will nurture a customer-centric culture that is focused on collaboration, execution excellence, and personal leadership and development. The Director will ensure - compliance with all applicable Novartis policies including Code of Conduct and all applicable laws and regulations, within a diverse and inclusive environment.

Congress strategy and orchestration:

•Partner with the key stakeholder leadership (eg. Marketing strategy, CMAR, Medical affairs, Product team, CXP&O, etc.) to evolve and implement a “One Novartis” congress vision that establishes Novartis (and the key brands) as a committed innovative patient-focused best-in-class leader across our core therapeutic areas
•Oversee and enable the collaboration and coordination of the CS&O team with key stakeholders (Marketing Strategy, CMAR, Sales Leadership, Medical Affairs, etc.) for the integration of functional strategies into comprehensive x-functional congress strategies
•Manage and enable the development of commercial congress objectives, strategy, congress plans and budgets - by the CS&O team - for each of their respective therapeutic area
•Identify, implement and scale congress metrics and customer feedback delivered via dash boards & reports - to enable informed decision-making regarding investments, resource utilization, strategy development and best practice sharing across our core therapeutic areas
•Oversee and enable the function and formation of the steering committee model to deliver on executional excellence
•Partner with the key stakeholders to identify, integrate and scale innovative ideas and best practices into our congress strategies, plans and activities (in-person and virtual)
•Direct resourcing and investment requirements and decisions for the commercial congress elements across the 4 therapeutic areas
•Identify and implement required platforms, technology, and processes to enable successful deployment, and business impact, of the team
•Collaborate closely with Legal, Regulatory and Compliance to ensure compliant and successful programs/activities
•Manage and lead a team of 4-8 direct reports. This includes (but not limited to) recruiting / hiring, coaching, developing, assessing performance, delegation, prioritization and assisting with navigating the organization informally.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $174,400.00 and $261,600.00 per year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company re-serves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Bachelor’s degree in related field, MBA or advanced degree preferred.

What You’ll Bring to the Role:


•Minimum of 5 years of directly related marketing experience in a regulated industry (US Pharmaceutical or Healthcare Industry preferred)
oPositive track record of delivering results/outcomes, strategy development & planning, budget management, cross-functional collaboration, etc.
oDemonstrated capabilities in successful ideation and implementation of innovative approaches/programs
oAbility to manage multiple tasks, priorities and deadlines
oStrong analytical skills and presentation skills
•Minimum 5 years of congress management/planning experience (Pharmaceutical or Healthcare industry and US market experience preferred)
oPositive track record of orchestrating and delivering an integrated experience across in-person and virtual congresses.
•Minimum of 3 years in people management role
positive track record of building and maintaining a collaborative high-performance team, enabling individual growth and development, building positive inclusive team culture, etc.
•Strong interpersonal skills and executive presence
•Excellent written and oral communication skills
•Proven ability to work effectively in a matrixed environment
•Proven ability to lead and influence others outside of direct reporting structure
•Ability to travel 50% (predominantly in US)
