About the role:
Join the Global Device and Packaging Technology team at Novartis as a Senior Expert in Parenteral Packaging Technology. In this pivotal role, your focus will be the development of parenteral packaging solutions specifically for radioligand therapies. You will play a key part in advancing the design and development of a new syringe system intended for the intravenous administration of radioligand products, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative and effective primary packaging solutions that support the next generation of therapies.
About the Role
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the development of syringe systems for radioligand therapies, collaborating with interdisciplinary project teams and managing design history documentation for assigned projects.
- Utilize technical expertise to resolve design, development, and operational challenges, ensuring timely preparation and delivery of parenteral primary packaging and combination products, as well as related processes and procedures.
- Perform technical assessments to confirm compliance and proper functionality of packaging components and systems.
- Apply comprehensive knowledge of materials—including glass, polymers, rubbers, silicone/lubricants, sterile barrier systems, and adhesives—and manufacturing methods such as injection molding, glass converting, rubber molding, assembly, fill & finish, and transport validation.
- Address and resolve problems, such as deviations or unexpected experimental results, within your area of responsibility, and communicate solutions effectively across organizational boundaries.
- Develop packaging prototypes for both early and late development phases using rapid prototyping techniques, machined parts, and/or soft tooling.
- Conduct assessments for manufacturability and perform tolerance stack analyses to ensure robust product design.
- Stay current in the fields of materials, design, and manufacturing to effectively manage project-specific third-party collaborations.
- Contribute to general development activities, including platform documentation, technology landscaping, and change control management.
- Drive preparation of technical documentation required for the registration of medical devices and combination products, and provide support in responding to health authority inquiries.
Essential Requirements:
- Master’s or PhD in engineering, materials science, pharmaceutical technology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a comparable position, ideally within the primary packaging, medical device, combination product development, or pharmaceutical industries; experience with radioligand therapies (RLT) is a significant plus.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and influence within a global, matrixed organization; possesses strong communication and negotiation abilities, actively engages with stakeholders, and effectively collaborates across different functional areas.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

In accordance with Austrian law, we are obliged to disclose the minimum salary as stated in the collective bargaining agreement. For this position the minimum salary is € 65,605.54 a year (on a full-time basis). The actual salary will be significantly higher, as we strive to maintain a competitive position in the market and consider your previous experience, qualifications and individual competencies.
