This role shapes external policy to address immediate business risks and opportunities while positioning Novartis for long-term success. Acting as a trusted partner, the Head of Public Affairs builds and maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers. The position also provides strategic political intelligence and counsel to internal business leaders and, depending on scope, leads and develops a small team to deliver impactful policy initiatives.
About the Role
Key Responsibilities:
- Map external stakeholders and systematically engage pro-actively through direct contact and relationship building, setting up key platforms for engagement on key policy and business priorities, working in partnership
- Provide expert political and policy analysis, monitoring trends and assessing their impact on Novartis; advise senior management on emerging risks and opportunities.
- Lead and/or Active member of the local trade/industry associations and participate in the policy discussion to shape the favorable environment
- Mitigate negative impact of regulation either as Novartis individually and/or together with industry/trade association
- Formulate and obtain board alignment across division to implement consistent public affairs strategy in line with Novartis corporate strategy and implement them consistently
- Represent Novartis, providing regular and quality input to Government through reports and/or briefing documents
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders including government, research institutes and media to support business objectives
- Disseminate information to relevant stakeholders (patient group, regulators, media and partners) through appropriate use of communication channels.
- Lead Public Affairs Council at the country level to strategize and implement initiatives
- Serve as an advisor to the Country President to identify aligned priorities between Novartis and the government and the short-to-midterm engagement plan to achieve those objectives.
Essential Requirements:
- Advanced degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Law, Healthcare, or related field; MBA or equivalent experience is an advantage
- Proven track record in shaping healthcare policy and leading advocacy initiatives within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
- Strong people leadership skills with experience managing and developing talent, including oversight of Public Affairs Managers or similar roles.
- Deep understanding of political trends and regulatory frameworks; capable of providing strategic counsel to senior management on policy risks and opportunities.
- Proficiency in English (written & spoken) and local language.
- 10+ years in public affairs public policy or related. Multinational experience preferred.
- Ability to build trusted relationships with government bodies, industry associations, and key external stakeholders; skilled in influencing policy decisions. Background in government service is an added advantage i.e. experience working with important external stakeholders such as MOH, embassies, and other ministries
