The main responsibility of this role is to lead, develop, implement, and oversee effective Health, Safety Environment (HSE), Novartis Emergency Management (NEM) systems in line with local, regional, and global expectations. This involves technical support for numerous Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) activities following established processes and lead effective implementation to the daily operations of the function.

To provide expertise in a specialized aspect of Health Safety Environment or Environmental Sustainability to the business and advice to ensure adherence to legal and Company internal documents in HSE on site for internals, externals.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Champion Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) excellence by implementing site HSE strategies, programs, and objectives that protect people, operations, and the environment.
  • Chemical Risk Management Program: Chemical product assessments - regulatory texts review, SDS review, mixture evaluations, support for colleagues
  • Chemical risk assessment: CAP REEP (Chemical Agent Program – Risk Exposure Evaluation Process). Coordination of exposure monitoring and assessment
  • General HSE Activities: HSE risk assessments, Incident and event investigations and Support for the preparation of global HSE audits
  • Foster a proactive safety culture by driving engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement across the site.
  • Ensure compliance with global, local, and regulatory HSE requirements through effective management systems, processes, and controls.
  • Lead HSE audits, inspections, compliance assessments, and regulatory interactions, ensuring operational readiness and risk mitigation.
  • Monitor and evaluate HSE performance, providing data-driven insights and recommendations to strengthen compliance and business outcomes.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate HSE risks through robust preventive and corrective action plans, ensuring timely CAPA implementation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to embed HSE into daily operations, support business continuity, and deliver sustainable operational performance.

Essential Requirement:

  • University degree in Risk Management, Safety Management, Environmental Management, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced proficiency in English is required.
  • Experience in HSE within a manufacturing, operations, or supply chain environment.
  • 3 to 5 years of professional experience
  • Experience in HSE roles within an industrial environment (preferably chemical or pharmaceutical)
  • Fluent in French
  • English level B1/B2, with the ability to present a chemical risk assessment in English.

Expected Annual Base Salary Range for role: 

  • France: 36,960.00 - 52,800.00 - 68,640.00 EUR Annual

The salary offered is determined based on gender-neutral objectives, such as relevant skills, competencies and experience in accordance with the Novartis pay setting policy and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically.  

In addition to your base salary, you may be eligible for a performance-based bonus depending on certain performance parameters. Further details will be provided during the application process.
