We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join us as the Executive Director, Launch Excellence Head (Medical) of the Latin America and Canada region. In this role, you will be at the forefront of driving early product launch readiness and strategic decision-making for our organization. As the Executive Director, you will have a key leadership role in shaping the tactical execution of early launch readiness processes in the Latin America and Canada region.

About the Role

  • Launch readiness sponsor for early product planning: drive the “Go Early” approach including the development of processes/frameworks to deliver launch excellence and shape the healthcare landscape.  In close collaboration with VACD, TA heads, International and local medical affairs teams, you will support early launch readiness tactical plan development and aid CSO’s in ensuring execution with process rigor. 
  • Excellence monitoring & execution: provide the framework for governance escalation issues and ensure the chief medical office can effectively and efficiently manage performance in the medical affairs function. You will own, develop, and drive a sustainable system for performance management of the medical affairs function at the regional level, in line with expected execution milestones from tactical plans.  This system should monitor impact and outcomes against planned milestones & objectives, contributing to business performance indicators at the regional LT level. 
  • Lead people & capability initiatives in LaCan: identify and articulate capability journeys and organizational skill plans in the region of LaCan, in collaboration with the P&O function and global medical affairs (e.g. CAP tool, MSL university, M-Brace) that are anchored in the roadmap for tactical excellence within the “go-early” approach.
  • Regional interconnectivity: develop and curate a platform for regional inter-connectivity, fostering the exchange of best practices and tactical synergies. By integrating standards for early launch readiness plans into medical workstreams, you will contribute to improved decision-making and process efficiencies.
  • Expected travel:  approximately 25% international travel and/or domestic.

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, with at least 10+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and proven experience/expertise in areas of launch readiness, medical/field-medical operations (preferred) or commercial operations at local, regional, or global level.  If no track record on Medical Affairs, a healthcare professional background will be highly desirable.
  • Expertise in Novartis key therapeutic areas. 
  • Track record in structuring go-to-market & launch approaches for pharmaceuticals including experience in developing business cases for product investments. 
  • Expertise in developing tactical plans within a launch excellence framework following corporate and regulatory governance. 
  • Enterprise, proactive and curious mindset.  
  • Ability to orchestrate complex project execution across different functions.
  • Effective communicator with experience in senior management communications and presentations.
  • Proficiency in English.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Medical Doctor or PhD in biomedical sciences.
  • Basic knowledge of the Latin America and Canada healthcare ecosystem.

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $284,000 - $426,000/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period.  Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
