About the Role

This position will be located at the East Hanover, NJ site and will not be able to be located remotely.

The Director of Business Planning and Strategy, Insights, and Decision Science will work closely with the Chief Insights and Decision Officer in establishing the new IDS strategy, team operations, and enhanced and simplified engagement within the US . The Director Business Planning and Strategy will engage with all levels of the organization on behalf of IDS, identifying areas of strategic and operational focus to enable business-critical groundbreaking change. They will play a critical role in managing ongoing IDS engagement, developing cross-divisional interconnectivity, and enable change management for the IDS organization. 

The role will be responsible for meeting and engagement planning and excellence across various strategic pillars. This individual will be the key point of contact for executive engagements in the US and Globally in partnership with the Chief Insights and Decision Officer.

The ideal candidate is passionate about both strategy and execution and is able to translate ideation into impact. This person will be a self-starter eager to change and ready to challenge assumptions. This individual is a skilled influencer with an enterprise mindset and is able to interact and influence across various levels of seniority, within the US and internationally, and cross-divisionally across Novartis. The Business Planning and Strategy Director is passionate about driving simplification, leadership, and problem-solving.

Major Accountabilities 

  • Create and provide strategic communications support for executive engagement for the Chief IDS Officer both US and Global.
  • Oversea and manage strategic engagements related to critical business priorities to senior internal and external audiences.
  • Provide strategic counsel, daily operational and business planning support to the Chief IDS Officer and IDS Organization.
  • Lead, create, and prioritization and execution of key prioritized strategic initiatives across IDS organization, in partnership with all other US Functions.
  • Build excellence in day-to-day meeting operations and outcomes in service of the Chief IDS Officer and IDS Organization.
  • Create and embed new standard for effective critical strategic planning and reviews for the IDS Organization.
  • Create and lead key initiatives for the IDS Organization with the Chief IDS Officer, US LT and Global leaders to drive culture and operational excellence.

Education (minimum/desirable):

Bachelor’s Degree required (MBA preferred)

Experience:         

  • 8+ years in pharmaceutical, biotech, consumer, healthcare or healthcare consulting industry, inclusive of at least two different types of cross-functional roles/experience, and commercial experience, highly preferred
  • 2+ years in project management and translation of strategy into execution
  • Experience leading complex projects requiring global and local alignment
  • Strong ability to simplify complex concepts & strategies and “tell a story” orally and in writing
  • Strong analytical skills and an ability to generate insights and develop relevant action plans
  • Strong influencing skills, and the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in stressful situations
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and a heavy workload
  • 2+ years within a significant consultancy group (e.g., McKinsey, BCG, Bain), preferred
  • 2+ years experience with data management and/or advanced analytics preferred
  • Prior Experience leading through change or transformation is preferred.

This position will require 20% travel as defined by the business (domestic and/ or international).

The pay range for this position at the commencement of employment is expected to be between $201,600.00 and $302,400.00 per year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period.  Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to, geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
