About the Role

Location: East Hanover, NJ (Hybrid)

The Senior Accountant, Record to Report, P&O (People & Organization/HR) Accounting is a significant contributor within the team, responsible for accounting and reporting activities for P&O processes including Pension, Share Based Compensation, Restructuring, Payroll, and other Employee Benefits (EB) activities.

In this role, you work closely with the broader Accounting and Reporting team to ensure accurate month end reporting, controls compliance, coordination of close process and preparation of materials for review of financials with management. You will bring your strong working relationships with the various reporting teams at both local and global levels and cross-function business partners, such as BPA (Business Planning and Analysis), third party vendors and P&O Functions partners.

Your Key Responsibilities:
• Interact proactively with related functional areas to ensure accurate and complete financial reporting
• Perform Balance Sheet Reconciliations & Analysis for various high risk, low risk general ledger accounts; ensure accounts are fully reconciled with reconciling items being searched and explained
• Contribute to month-end financial closing and reporting processes for P&O accounting
• Ensure all key topics are raised proactively and aligned with stakeholders to minimize surprises
• Prepare manual journal entries
• Ensure all processes performed comply with Novartis standards and policies (i.e., global processes, Novartis Accounting Manual, Novartis Financial Controls Manual, Management Authorization Levels, etc.)
• Maintain an appropriate standard of technical competence
• Drive automation and simplification across accounting tasks

Role Requirements

Essential Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting / Finance required; 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in Big 4 public accounting, and/or the healthcare industry/employee benefits accounting
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in accounting & reporting focused roles within a matrix organization
• In-depth SAP knowledge
• Robust analytics and process skills and skillful in working with large data set
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to influence stakeholders at various levels

Desirable Requirements:
• Advanced degree in Finance/Accounting/Business
• CPA/CMA/Chartered Accountant strongly
• Strong automation tool knowledge / skills highly preferred, such as Alteryx, Power Automate

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $76,320.00 and $114,480.00 / year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
