Ljubljana, September 25, 2025 – Novartis in Slovenia once again organised the traditional scientific event BioCamp this year, aimed at promising students in the natural and technical sciences. The three-day forum, held in Bled under the title “The Transformative Power of Artificial Intelligence: From Drug Discovery to Clinical Practice”, focused on the role of AI in reshaping healthcare—from research to tangible solutions in patient care.

BioCamp is one of Novartis’ innovative HR practices, offering STEM students (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) a unique opportunity to network, gain knowledge, and explore the latest trends in pharmaceuticals and healthcare. “Collaborating with esteemed experts and experienced leaders gives young people valuable insight into the workings of the innovative international pharmaceutical industry and the latest trends in the field. At BioCamp, we enable promising students to co-create the future of medicine with their knowledge, creativity, and collaboration,” highlighted the organizers from Novartis in Slovenia.

Artificial Intelligence as a driver of future healthcare

The central theme of this year’s event was the transformative power of AI and its impact on the future of the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare. AI is increasingly recognised as a tool that can accelerate drug discovery and development, improve diagnostics, and enable more personalised treatment options for patients. Its use offers opportunities for more efficient processes, more precise decision-making, and better treatment outcomes. “AI has tremendous potential to connect cutting-edge science with the real needs of patients. That’s why Novartis in Slovenia invests in research, partnerships, and talent development to ensure this technology is used responsibly and innovatively for the benefit of patients,” they emphasised at the event.

An invaluable experience for the future

Out of nearly 600 applicants, 35 promising students from 11 countries were selected to participate in this year’s BioCamp. With the support of experts, they explored opportunities for using AI in the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare and developed ideas to tackle real-world challenges in the field. They presented their solutions to a professional jury, which selected two individual winners and the best team. The individual winners of this year’s BioCamp were Ian Ghezzi from the Faculty of Biological Sciences at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and Patrick Müller from the University of Eberhard Karls in Tübingen, also Germany. The winning team members were Riljeta Jonuzi, Rehina Pashkevych, Svenja Schmidt, Stefan Jackson, Ioannis Thymianidis, and Sven Größl.
