This role is a highly technical and a specialized professional position responsible for collaborating with multi-discipline research programs by providing high quality & consistent coordination of breeding activities in the field of genetically engineered models (GEM’s).

Your responsibilities will include:

• Ensure state-of-the-art coordination of GEM’s breeding activities with highest ethical and technical standards – “breeding for purpose”
• Plan, implement and track breeding activities for various types of GEM’s, from early-stage Animal Engineering projects to large production projects, both internally and at 3rd parties (CRO’s)

• Previous experience in Animal Engineering (e.g. in model design and genetic characterization of founder animals) would be advantageous
• Closely and independently interact with scientists, located at all global Novartis sites, to advise on and plan breeding strategies
• Closely interact with colleagues from the genotyping and embryology laboratories to ensure timely availability of genotyping data and to initiate cryopreservation and storage of GEM’s
• Responsible for pursuing continuous learning/professional development opportunities, enhancing/expanding skill set, and reviewing CM techniques and processes

Conduct presentations of data and results to the GEM’s team and Novartis project teams
 

Role Requirements :

What you'll bring to the role:

• Bachelor or Master degree with a focus on genetics and with completed education as in-vivo laboratory technician (LTK 1 or equivalent), OR animal caretaker with profound experience in GEM’s breeding. (Please note that we do not require a PhD level candidate for this position at this time).
• Minimum 7 - 8 years of experience in a GEM’s breeding program required, experience in overseeing activities at CRO’s would be beneficial
• Good understanding of genetics and ability to plan complex breeding schemes involving GEM’s lines carrying multiple genetic modifications, as well as the corresponding project management expertise

• Superior written and oral communication and data documentation skills required
• Strong commitment to animal welfare, team player, detail-oriented
• Fluent in English
