Biomedical Research Center in San Diego, California

Novartis has broken ground on our new, state-of-the-art global Biomedical Research center in San Diego, designed to provide a world-class and scientific infrastructure and drug-discovery capabilities to advance the company’s pipeline for patients.

Once operational in 2029, the approximately 466,000-square-foot facility is expected to house about 1,000 Novartis employees and integrate seamlessly with Novartis global research sites including Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Basel, Switzerland, enabling integrated discovery efforts across regions.

Our Carlsbad, California site will soon become our third US site dedicated to manufacturing radioligand therapies (RLT), a personalized and targeted treatment for multiple cancers. Designed to support current and future demand and ongoing innovation in RLTs, the Carlsbad site is built for further expansion, enabling the potential production of therapies.

Cell therapy production in Morris Plains, New Jersey

Our facility in Morris Plains, New Jersey has been producing groundbreaking cell therapies for patients since 2015. The site specializes in advanced manufacturing and supply chain processes that ensure the timely delivery and efficacy of these innovative, life-changing treatments at scale. Our site in Morris Plains employs approximately 700 people. 

Flagship manufacturing hub in North Carolina

Our flagship manufacturing hub will include three sites across Durham and Morrisville, spanning more than 700,000 square feet once complete. Our current site in Durham employs approximately 350 people and produces innovative, life-changing gene therapies at scale, as well as gene therapy products for ongoing and future clinical trials, helping advance the next generation of treatments.

With the addition of the new sites, we are expanding capabilities to produce medicines across our main therapeutic areas: oncology, immunology, neuroscience, and cardiovascular, renal and metabolic. Anticipated to open in 2027-2028, the flagship manufacturing hub is expected to create 700 new jobs at Novartis and more than 3,000 indirect jobs across the supply chain by the end of 2030.

Radioligand therapy production in Millburn, New Jersey

In 2023, our Millburn, New Jersey site became the first Novartis manufacturing location in the US to produce radioligand therapies (RLT), a personalized and targeted treatment for multiple cancers. Since then, we have expanded on-site production capabilities to ensure as many patients as possible can receive RLT when and where they need it. Millburn is home to approximately 200 Novartis employees. 

Biomedical Research organization in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Novartis established a global hub for its Biomedical Research organization in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2003. The site is home to cutting-edge research facilities and about 2,000 scientists, clinicians, and business professionals dedicated to scientific innovation and drug discovery. The company’s decision to invest heavily in the area has been driven by the region’s highly skilled talent marketplace, world-leading hospitals, and potential for collaboration with both the local biotech and academic communities.

Radioligand Therapy Manufacturing Facility in Winter Park, Florida

Once completed, our new radioligand therapy (RLT) facility in Winter Park, Florida will expand our US manufacturing footprint and increase patient access to time-sensitive, made-to-order cancer treatments.
