A workplace of inclusion, equal opportunity and respect lives at the heart of Novartis culture and is an integral part of everything we do. It is key to driving innovation and business performance as we push the boundaries of science and reimagine medicine together to improve and extend people’s lives.

To best achieve this mission, we seek the best talent that understands the diverse needs of the patients we serve.  We are focused on attracting, developing, and retaining the most qualified people, with a range of backgrounds and experiences, at all levels and in all functions, and creating an environment where their collective talents and contributions advance our business.

At Novartis, we are a place where everyone can bring their genuine selves –unique and varied skillsets, backgrounds, experiences and perspectives – to work each day and everyone has equal opportunity to advance and succeed.

Our commitment goes beyond the workplace, through our efforts to help ensure quality healthcare is accessible to all people. By investing in initiatives that support healthier communities, we further our mission to reimagine medicine and help improve the lives of the patients we serve.

Access to healthcare and levels of patient care vary greatly across the country and within our healthcare system. Novartis and the Novartis US Foundation took a major step forward to help improve quality healthcare for all by launching Beacon of Hope, an innovative ten-year initiative providing health and educational opportunities in collaboration with 26 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), including four HBCU Medical Schools, and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. Since its inception, Novartis and the Novartis US Foundation have been proud to welcome non-profit and industry partners to Beacon of Hope.

Each year, members of our ERGs meet with members of Congress to share the work they are doing to further enhance the Novartis culture and society, as part of our Capitol Hill Day initiative. Through this experience, ERG leaders have the opportunity to represent the organization externally and gain professional development and access to decision makers.

Each year, Novartis associates across the US come together for our annual event: Day of Reflection. It is a meaningful opportunity for associates to have courageous conversations and ignite actionable ideas on how each of us can play a role in cultivating inclusion and community as well as advancing quality healthcare for all patients.

Day of Reflection began in 2020 as a way for all associates to gather as a community and commemorate Juneteenth. Now in its fifth year, Day of Reflection serves both as a poignant reminder of the work that still lies ahead of us as we strive to achieve equal opportunity in many facets of society, including healthcare, as well as a chance to learn, connect, reflect and discover the many ways we can be more inclusive with each other as colleagues through community.

Esteemed guests join Novartis executives, industry experts and thousands of participants from all areas of the business for provoking discussions and opportunities for creativity.

We have assembled a dedicated council representing voices from all areas of the company to work with leaders throughout the organization and ensure our strategy of inclusion and belonging is deeply ingrained in all areas of our organization. The council actively advocates for and implements initiatives that promote equal opportunities for all associates, taking a leadership role in driving change and progress. This council plays a crucial role in fostering connections and unifying our goals for all associates. By supporting our mission of reimagining medicine for everyone, the council helps create an inclusive environment that benefits both our associates and the communities we serve.

Through Workforce Acceleration (WA) and the company’s equal opportunity policies and procedures, we are creating a more innovative workforce that reflects all of the patient communities we serve. It is a business imperative for Novartis to build inclusive teams with varied skillsets, backgrounds, experiences and perspectives, that will help us best understand and address the unique needs of our diverse patient communities across all geographies and demographics.

The WA partners both internally within Novartis as well as with external organizations to further its goals to increase greater community of belonging and inclusion.

We also support internal initiatives that provide mentorship, coaching and professional development for all our people. By strengthening our talent lifecycle, equal opportunity policies, processes and practices, WA is helping embed belonging and inclusion into our business.

In 2018, Novartis made a public pledge with the United Nations’ Equal Pay International Coalition (EPIC) to help close the overall gender pay gap.
