Desmond (Des) Creary

Chief Customer Engagement Officer, US

As Chief Customer Engagement Officer for Novartis US, Des leads the company’s US Commercial sales organization, working closely with customers to help them deliver medicines to appropriate patients in need. As the face of the company with these customers, Creary’s organization plays a critical role in building trust with healthcare practitioners and supporting them through innovative solutions to drive patient outcomes at scale.

Our commercialization teams rarely meet most patients our medicines ultimately serve. But our customers meet them all. They are the doorway to our patients. That’s why it’s essential that we understand how our customers work, including the barriers they face, and how we can better support them along the entire patient journey.

Before joining Novartis in 2022, Des worked at Microsoft Corporation as the Americas Health Lead on the Worldwide Healthcare team. Prior to that, Des spent 12 years in the pharmaceutical industry at GSK, where he held several roles in executive leadership, including VP of Sales for the US diabetes and respiratory franchises. Also at GSK, Des joined the Office of the CEO as a member of the Future Strategies Group where he co-designed a new operating model for the Sub-Saharan Africa business.

In 2024, Savoy magazine recognized Des in its annual list of Most Influential Executives in Corporate America for exemplifying exceptional leadership and influence in the corporate world.

Des received a B.S. from Southern University and A&M College and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. He also completed an Executive Program at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Des lives in Arizona with his wife and daughters, and in his spare time, he loves volunteering at Carlson Elementary and Payne Middle Junior High School. In addition, as a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated, Des volunteers at the local food bank in service of reducing childhood hunger and creating opportunities in the Phoenix area – causes close to his heart.
