Project Name: Velindre Cancer Services Patient Support Video

Organisation(s): Velindre University NHS Trust

Completion Date: September 2026

Outcome Summary:

The collaborative working project successfully delivered an animated patient education video to support people receiving CDK4/6 inhibitor therapy. The video provides clear, accessible information on taking treatment, managing potential side effects, staying well at home and knowing when to contact the clinical team for advice. It was designed to complement, rather than replace, the personalised verbal and written information provided by healthcare professionals.

The resource supports a consistent approach to patient education and can be revisited by patients at home or shared with their families and carers. It is available with both English and Welsh subtitles, helping to improve the accessibility and equity of patient information.

Key Project Outcomes Data:

The project delivered:

  • One animated patient education video covering CDK4/6 inhibitor therapy.
  • A clear resource explaining treatment administration, potential side effects, self-management and when to seek clinical advice.
  • An additional mechanism for providing information at treatment initiation and throughout the patient’s treatment.
  • Improved accessibility through the provision of English and Welsh subtitle options.
  • Content that patients can revisit and share with members of their support network.
  • Patient education that complements existing face-to-face discussions and written information.
  • Inclusion of the CDK4/6 inhibitor video within Velindre’s wider suite of three patient education animations.
  • A poster highlighting the complete video suite for presentation at a national annual conference on 18-19 September 2026.
  • Adaptation of the Velindre content into a generic patient education video for potential wider UK use.

Conclusion:

The project achieved its core objective of developing an accessible animated video to support education for patients receiving CDK4/6 inhibitor therapy. The resource provides consistent information that can be revisited outside of the clinical setting and shared with carers and family members, while complementing the support provided by healthcare professionals.

The project has also generated value beyond the original deliverable. The CDK4/6 inhibitor video now forms part of Velindre’s wider suite of animated patient education resources, the collective learning has been captured in a conference poster, and the content has informed the development of a generic version for potential use across UK cancer centres. This demonstrates the wider applicability and scalability of the collaborative approach between both partners.
