Summary

As part of Americas Study and Site Operations (SSO) Strategy and Operations (S&O) leadership team, accountable for leading value-based special projects that strengthen the functional health and core competencies of SSO in line with short, medium, and long-term strategies. Pivotal enterprise leader who influences vision and strategic initiatives across SSO as well as Global Clinical Operations (GCO) and may act as the SSO liaison with other Global Drug Development (GDD) strategic and operational functions in certain initiatives. Acts as business owner of systems and process design for Americas SSO in line with specific needs and activities

About the Role

Location: East Hanover, Preferred

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proposes, defines, and tracks value-added special projects and initiatives in Americas SSO and collaborates across GCO on linkages/resources as needed with a focus on impacting future strategy areas.
  • Collaborates with the Operations Associate Director in Americas SSO S&O and the SSO/PSP Resourcing Team to champion initiatives and innovations that involve SSO associates from Americas to ensure alignment with future innovative/digitalization strategy.
  • Drive participation of Americas SSO in key, strategic enterprise-wide programs and ensure adequate representation of the group in all corresponding activities; drive implementation of programs in SSO.
  • In collaboration with the other functions from Americas/US SSO, supports the Americas SSO LT by providing input on strategic vision objectives and goals by evaluating, driving, and piloting advanced methodologies and practices from industry leaders to enhance clinical trial delivery.
  • Represent the voice of US SSO in strategic forums with senior leaders across Biomedical, Development and US IM.
  • Drive adoption of solutions in collaboration within the hub and the countries and the Americas SSO LT.
  • Identifies and evaluates external (e.g. TransCelerate, CenterWatch) and internal operating trends and practices to determine best-in-class approach to continuously evolve SSO as best-in-class in the industry.
  • Partners to ensure business pull through of country needs relating to process, training, and compliance initiatives.
  • Strategic partner with the Americas SSO LT to synthesize best practice and knowledge sharing learnings across SSO.
  • Strategic partner for the GCO Training CoE on the sharing of best practice and business adoption of ideas and information sharing within SSO and across GCO and drives and owns platform(s) within SSO that enable best practicing sharing and adoption, as appropriate.
  • Aligns organizational processes and recommendations for SSO to ensure optimum assessment of opportunities.

The ideal location for this role is East Hanover where hybrid working principles apply. A distant working arrangement may be considered in certain states for US associates who are not within a daily commutable distance (more than 50 miles one way). Distant workers are responsible for the cost of home office expenses and periodic travel/lodging to East Hanover, as determined necessary by hiring manager.

Role Requirements:

  • Advanced degree or combination bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 8 years working in global strategy, innovation, or clinical operations role.  Specific experience in clinical trials is preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in global matrix people management
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills, decision making strength, excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership in innovation of pharmaceutical development process and in technical approaches.
  • Understanding of drug development process; demonstrated success in planning and executing cross functional projects, comprehensive project management abilities.
  • Organizational awareness, including significant experience working cross-functionally and in global teams.
  • Demonstrated quantitative skills along with demonstrated application of quantitative approaches to re-designing processes, improving productivity and/or improving efficiency.

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $201,600- $302,40/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period.  Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
