Context for the role

With the application for a complex license, currently under review by the ANVS and expected to be approved in the second half of 2024, Novartis Baarle-Nassau (NBN) will begin production of Non Carier Added Lu-177. NBN is a strategic site for Novartis Radio Ligand Therapies (RLT) and will assume much of the production of isotopes for the network. This will make NBN one of the larger KEW licenses in the Netherlands.

The ACD will be part of a team of about 100 employees (including external staff) in Baarle-Nassau who ensure daily availability of Lutethium Chloride to sister sites in both Europe and the United States. Many thousands of patients are treated annually.

Meanwhile, the production of Lu-177 Carier Added continues until it is phased out and the supply is converted to the new platform. For several years, the site has been working hard to make improvements within the current organization, and the progress can be clearly seen within the company.

The role of ACD is new within the organization. There are currently 3 coordinating experts working within NBN, who in the future will be managed by the ACD. Within the various departments, radiation supervisors have been appointed and are in training to further expand the base. The ACD will lead the radiation protection unit within NBN, reporting hierarchically to the site HSE manager.

Given NBN's role in Novartis' RLT network, the ACD will also play an active role in developing and improving the radiation protection landscape at other sites. This includes leading the implementation of standards, sharing best practices and site-transcending discussions in radiation safety,

Flexibility through hybrid working is possible. Currently, the role is expected to have ~60% site presence.
