As a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) for Breast Cancer, you will play a key field-based scientific role in building strong relationships with targeted external experts, enabling deep data-driven scientific discussions, and understanding territory needs to support impactful medical engagement.

About the Role

Key responsibilities 

  • Build and maintain strong scientific relationships with targeted external experts, ensuring engagement is credible, compliant, and aligned with territory needs. 
  • Lead high-quality scientific exchanges on the therapeutical area, applying robust disease-area and product knowledge to support deep data discussions with healthcare professionals and external stakeholders. 
  • Develop a strong understanding of local territory dynamics, expert networks, and unmet needs to inform field medical priorities and support effective stakeholder engagement planning. 
  • Act as a proactive field-based medical partner, identifying opportunities to add scientific value through timely insights, expert interactions, and appropriate medical education activities. 
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal medical, commercial, and market access colleagues while maintaining the independence and integrity of the MSL role. 
  • Gather, synthesize, and communicate relevant external insights from the field to help inform medical strategy and support patient-focused decision making. 
  • Represent Novartis externally with strong communication, people skills, business acumen, and the ability to translate complex scientific information into clear and meaningful discussions. 
  • Contribute to a team of three MSLs by sharing knowledge, best practices, and territory learnings; this role has no direct people management responsibilities. 
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with applicable compliance, ethical, and scientific standards. 

Essential Requirements 

  • Advanced scientific, medical, or healthcare-related education preferred; relevant MSL or field medical experience in Canada is an asset; strong communication skills are highly desirable for engagement across the territory. 
  • Strong scientific knowledge with the ability to conduct credible, in-depth data discussions with external experts. 
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with targeted experts and healthcare stakeholders. 
  • Solid understanding of territory needs, local healthcare dynamics, and external expert engagement requirements. 
  • Excellent communication and vulgarization skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear, audience-appropriate messages. 
  • Proactive mindset, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a field-based environment. 
  • Business acumen and strategic thinking to prioritize opportunities and align field activities with medical objectives. 
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and commitment to compliant, ethical, and patient-focused scientific engagement.
