Summary

Location: Basel, Switzerland Full time, onsite, #LI-onsite Disease Area X, a department within the Biomedical Research (BR) group of Novartis, focuses on diseases of critical human organs, including kidney, lung, and liver. We are seeking a scientist to join our interdisciplinary pharmacology team (Discovery and Translational Pharmacology) in support of our efforts to progress novel medicines toward the clinic, with an emphasis on renal diseases. In this role, you will be involved in executing and troubleshooting in vivo and ex vivo studies to identify new therapeutic targets, and to test and validate novel medicines.

About the Role

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct in vivo and ex vivo experiments on rodents, tissues, or cells to support drug discovery progression and identify and validate new targets.
  • Develop and execute new in vivo models and readouts, perform in vivo efficacy and PK/PD studies.
  • Develop and execute key assays utilizing molecular, biochemical, and/or immunohistochemistry techniques.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design studies that assess pharmacodynamics and efficacy of therapeutic candidates in preclinical models.
  • Work collaboratively in a highly team-oriented and matrix environment.
  • Clearly present results and data to teams within Disease Area X.
  • Work in compliance with the Novartis Code of Conduct and in accordance with Novartis guidelines on health and safety and data recording.

What you will bring to the role (minimum requirements)

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in a scientific discipline with minimum 2 years related laboratory experience in an academic or industrial drug discovery setting in an in vivo role. Please note that we not require a PhD level candidate for this position.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with in vivo rodent research, as well as certifications for carrying out animal experiments (LTK Module 1 or 2 or a different FELASA Cat. B, C accredited course).
  • Hands-on experience with in vivo procedures in rodents, including multiple routes of dose administration, blood collection, dissection techniques, and tissue collection.
  • Experience and/or motivation to learn molecular, biochemical, and/or immunohistochemical assays (such as Western blotting, ELISA, RT-PCR, histology, IHC) and/or tissue culture/cell biology.
  • Demonstrate ability to quickly learn and perform in new areas, implement new techniques and instrumentation, critical problem-solving and multi-tasking.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and present data, and work independently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, German desirable.

Desirable Characteristics:

  • Experience with rodent models of chronic kidney disease.
  • Experience in complex cellular models and/or ex vivo systems or explants.
