Meeting our standards – a holistic approach
Novartis Responsible Procurement (RP) brings all five areas where we have taken on corporate responsibility commitments in the supply chain under one umbrella. It is built on four key principles:
1. Risk based
RP uses risk assessment to accurately target our efforts to where they are most needed – on high-risk suppliers.
2. Modular
RP covers all 5 areas of ethical risk
- Labor Rights
- Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)
- Animal Welfare
- Anti-Bribery
- Data Privacy
3. Integrated
RP is fully integrated with both our day-to-day Procurement operations and our in-house expertise in Labor, HSE, Animal Welfare and Anti-Bribery.
4. Collaborative
RP engages with suppliers to improve their social responsibility and ethical business practices.
Governed by our policy framework, Novartis Responsible Procurement has three core components:
RP practice: the end-to-end process by which we assess ethical risk in suppliers and implement corrective actions
RP projects: individual initiatives targeting underlying or systemic ethical issues among suppliers
RP products targeted initiatives, often in conjunction with expert functions, by which we improve the sustainability of the products we buy
