Conserving water
Conserving water at our manufacturing facilities is a priority, especially in geographical areas where water is already scarce.
We closely monitor all water streams into and out of our Group company sites, which helps ensure effective management of water resources and costs. From 2005 to 2011, we have improved our average efficiency in the use of contact water by 36%.
Several Novartis locations are contributing to overall water efficiency:
- At an Alcon manufacturing plant in the US, the team has increased the site's water recycling rate to 180%. This means that every drop of water purchased is recycled almost two times.
- In Australia, at a Novartis Animal Health site, more than 90% of water consumed is collected from rain water. All waste water is treated and reused.
- Rainwater collected during monsoon seasons at a Sandoz production facility in India amounts to 3% to 8% of the site’s total water consumption.
