About the Role

Job Purpose:
• Provide portfolio insights and consolidated report/ analysis on development pipeline to senior key stakeholders to build/update the mid-term management strategy and make enterprise-wide strategic decision.
• Lead the overall portfolio characterization in terms of current state, performance, and outlook along the four dimensions: scale, value, innovation, and productivity and optimize value-risk profile of portfolio and projects to maximize Japan development pipeline value.

Major Accountabilities:
 Lead and present in-depth analysis and strategic insights on development pipeline by consolidating the assessment of individual project values, prioritization, and constraints to project/portfolio governance and management boards.
 Establish the framework and the review process in portfolio assessment and lead cross-divisional team in alignment with enterprise-wide portfolio system and priorities with reflecting Japan specific needs.
• Collaborate with strategic functions in development and business to enhance the opportunity and potential of pipeline/projects in alignment with each therapeutic area.
• Drive to execute the portfolio strategies and resource allocations in accordance with strategic priorities and organizational objectives.
• Facilitate the adoption of the integrated portfolio management function within the organization by influencing key stakeholders across the divisions as a representative of the Pipeline Management team.
• Be the lead interface to the project team representatives and global partners to ensure the information/ the status of projects and to guide the assessment of projects/programs from strategic and financial perspectives in preparation for the strategic alignment at key milestones.
• Act as an expert with comprehensive portfolio knowledge and establishing and applying state-of-the-art methodology for portfolio analytics and reporting in collaboration with various global partners.

Role Requirements

Education:
• BSc or MSc in Life sciences, Finance and Marketing
• Additional desirable degree in business (MBA)
Experience/Professional requirement:
• 5+ years professional experience in pharma or health care industry, of which 3+ years preferably in drug development
• Preferably working in consultancy firms.
• Multi-/cross-functional leadership experience, preferably in drug development
• Expert in portfolio analytics: handling financial and commercial figures with in-depth knowledge in forecasting and valuation methodologies.
• Good understanding of R&D business and drug development process
• Ability to establish strong partnerships without formal authority in a high matrix organization
• Strong strategic team player to embed the portfolio strategy.
• Proven problem solving, facilitation and presentation skill.
• Commit to the Novartis culture, with the ability to create environment that inspires and enables people to move the organization forward

English Skill:
• Excellence knowledge of written and spoken Japanese and English
