The Director, Clinical Education will lead a team of Associate Directors, Clinical Education whose focus will be to deliver clinical education to healthcare professionals to support newly launched and upcoming launch products in the Novartis portfolio. This role will need to have a strong clinical background as they and their teams may need to support the enterprise portfolio. In addition to leading and developing the team, this role will be responsible for establishing strong professional relationships with key institutions and develop business plans for their geography. This leader will align tactical field execution with the national and regional strategy for our portfolio. #LI-Remote

About the Role

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Hire, train, and develop the Associate Directors, Clinical Education for respective disease states, conduct performance evaluations, and build development plans / mentor plans for each Specialist to effectively lead performance.
  • Implement compensation programs to effectively reward integrity-based, high-performance, and desired leadership behaviors.
  • Build strong, cross-functional relationships to demonstrate Novartis’ expertise to accomplish business goals and customer objectives.
  • Assist in the development of tools and resources for the Clinical Education Specialists (CES) to implement field activities at a high level to drive disease awareness and education around specific disease states.
  • Direct field activities and resource allocation to align with and deliver national and regional strategy, and effectively lead and prioritize ambitious customers’ interests.
  • Anticipate, monitor, and report changes in marketplace to effectively correct both tactical and critical initiatives.
  • Develop and lead key customer relationships and ensure the development and effective implementation of customer specific account plans.
  • Ensures alignment to, compliance with, and ownership of all NPC policies, including the Code of Conduct and all applicable laws and regulations.

Essential Requirements:

  • Clinical background required: NP, PA, RN, PharmD and/or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of clinical experience, and preferred within specific disease states (Immunology, Cardiovascular, Renal, Oncology, Neuroscience).
  • 4+ years managing teams with proven leadership experience. Internal Novartis Associates eligible, if associate has previous clinical and people leadership experience within the last 2 years at Novartis or prior company.
  • Proven leadership as a people manager with significant demonstration of peer leadership, project management and the ability to establish and cultivate key customer relationships.
  • Experience attracting and developing diverse talent and building and managing impactful teams.
  • Solid financial and business acumen including experience managing budgets.
  • This is a remote position that will support a Clinical Education team in an assigned region. Candidate must reside within territory, or within a reasonable daily commuting distance of 100 miles from territory boarder. Ability to travel 60-80% over a broad geography is required, with the ability to drive and/or fly within the territory. Desirable Requirements:

  • 10+ years pharmaceutical experience, with launch experience with a background of guiding and influencing others.
  • Cross-functional experience such as Marketing, Operations, Sales Training, Account Management or Market Access.

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $192,000 and $288,000/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period.  Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

For Field Roles with a Dedicated Training Period: The individual hired for this role will be required to successfully complete certain initial training, including home study, in eight (8) or fewer hours per day and forty (40) or fewer hours per week.
