Job Description

Job Purpose
• Ensure the proactive management and smooth functioning of major Alliances operating within NIBR
• Function as the main source of information regarding the deal terms/obligations
• Assist the project team(s) in driving the goals of the collaboration
• Manage collaboration issues before they become problems
• Support the development of alliance skills within the collaboration team
• Foster alliance skills and knowledge development, furthering the collaboration skills and capabilities of alliance teams and ultimately supporting and advancing Novartis’ reputation as a Partner of Choice
Major Accountabilities
• Optimization of the Collaboration:
- Work with the partner company to establish and maintain the direction and scope for implementation and maintenance of partnership agreements, including defining key activities and their respective timelines and assigning responsibilities between the partners.
- Provide a "complete" understanding of alliance issues allowing focus on what is best for the products within the scope of the alliance vs what is best for the function. Must use business and drug development acumen to proactively manage potential issues to avoid future conflict.
• Manage and direct the alliance governance activities:
- Monitor execution of, and adherence to, agreed upon research and development plans and diligence obligations, and take appropriate action to ensure execution and compliance.
- Ensure that strategies and decisions at the operational level and that plans and actions are consistent with alliance strategy.
• Alliance Conflict Management and Resolution:
- Manage long-term relationships between Novartis and the partners by demonstrating diplomacy skills and a high level of trust within both organizations. Must routinely evaluate partnership health and manage cross-functional issues and teams.
- Plan for and proactively manage the evolving nature of a partnership, its governance processes, and cross-partner interactions throughout the life cycle of the agreement.
- Take Novartis lead on issues (typically cross-functional) requiring alliance consensus or decision, gaining internal Novartis alignment through broad business knowledge and driving to resolution with the partner. Involve key internal players to ensure speedy decision-making process.
• General Business Functions:
- Accountable for reporting and milestone obligations, contract renegotiations, and contract amendments to partners and Novartis committees as appropriate.
- Conduct reviews and meetings, as appropriate, with senior management and other functions to communicate key issues, milestones, etc. and gather feedback.
While Novartis does not require vaccination at this time, for certain Novartis sites in the US all associates and candidates may be required to either upload an image of their COVID-19 vaccine card demonstrating proof of full vaccination for COVID-19 (or other similar evidence of vaccination) or proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken by the associate or candidate within the past seven days to enter any of our sites and/or customer office or healthcare facility, as well as prior to participating in other work related off-site meetings. Employees working in customer-facing roles must adhere to and comply with customers’ (such as hospitals, physician offices, etc.) credentialing guidelines, which may require vaccination. As required by applicable law, Novartis will consider requests for reasonable accommodation for those unable to be vaccinated. The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $158,400 and $237,600 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors

Minimum Requirements
Education
• Bachelor Degree required. Advanced Degree (Ph.D., M.D., Pharm.D., D.V.M., etc.) preferred
Work Experience
• At minimum 8+ years relevant experience in a similar role with an understanding of drug discovery and development experience; familiarity with Novartis as well as other Industry business models (Biotech, midsize Pharma and Academia) is a plus
• Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally, manage crises and align interests of multiple parties
• Experience with collaboration contracts to enable effective interactions with legal colleagues and scientific teams
• Appropriate interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence to develop internal and partner relationship and serve as an effective interface between collaborators
• Strong negotiation skills with excellent written and oral communication skills
Languages
• Fluency in English required with excellent oral and written communication, organizational and communication skills. Strong attention to detail, with an ability to work independently
