The Bioinformatics Team Lead is responsible for a high-performing Real-World Evidence(RWE) Bioinformatics team. You will coordinate team resources and deliverables, develop quality control and workflow processes, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, contribute to real world evidence projects which involve large scale genetic data and consulting on how to leverage such data.

Your responsibilities:
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Lead the execution of regional / global strategies.
o Contribute to and support Real World Evidence and Bioinformatics projects.
o Support the leadership team in presenting KPIs and financial target achievements, including project summaries, and team revenues to stakeholders and internal audiences.
o Manage service level agreements (SLAs), oversee and coordinate team resources and deliverables for global and local real-world evidence needs, ensuring adherence and appropriate prioritisation of projects while maintaining timelines and producing high quality output.
o Support the planning, development, and deployment of the business strategy. Seek out opportunities for the development of new services and new customers within Novartis.
o Lead collaborations with internal (e.g., Real-World Evidence Centre of Excellence), external partners and vendors to identify, evaluate and develop innovations to meet internal scientific/business needs.
o Engage with external academic and commercial analytics ecosystem and the published literature to; stay abreast of latest technical developments in human genetics, bioinformatics, and precision medicine.
o Provide consultation on applications of genomics to real-world evidence research questions to stakeholders.
o Present genetic research and team results across the company.
o Drive quality and accuracy of deliverables; continuous improvements on systems and processes that make valuable contributions to existing solutions, including the development and enhancement of standard operating procedures, and working practices to ensure quality control and efficient workflow processes strategies to enhance standardisation techniques to increase efficiency in results.
• Team Leadership
o Lead a strong Real-World Evidence Bioinformatics team, including the recruitment, onboarding, development, mentoring and coaching of team-members, with an emphasis on fostering top talent and promoting synergy and collaboration.
o Ensure and support the highest level of collaboration across different team locations.
o Set group objectives, manage, and evaluate team performance in conjunction with the Real-World Evidence Group Lead.
o Manage team budget, including approval of expenses and vendor and contractor management.
o Resolve issues and escalations arising from the team and customers and ensure the incorporation of lessons learnt into team procedures.
o Provide guidance to team members on study design, bioinformatic analyses and stakeholder interactions.
o Actively contribute to uptake of best practices in bioinformatics within the team.
o Oversee and ensure compliance with company standards and processes to ensure the team is audit-ready, including keeping tracking systems up-to-date and accurate.
o Ensure the team’s customer engagement is to the highest level to reach company targets.
• Provide analytic leadership and innovation regarding bioinformatics projects, molecular data analyses, and associated methodology.
• Champion the use of omics data at Novartis.
• Independently draft and edit documents such as high-level research proposals, protocols, and statistical analysis plans.
• Drive the use of advanced and innovative statistical methods and tools for data visualization, including the use of RWE tools such as R, R/shiny, SAS, Impala, git, or JIRA.

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
• Experience successfully leading analytical teams in a matrix environment.
• Skills in performance management, developing individuals and teams and fostering top talent.
• Possesses a high standard on quality excellence. Continuously seeking to enhancing standards, technology through expansion of knowledge and training.
• Ability to work in Unix-based and HPC environments with confidence to speak out, challenge conventional thinking, and stand up for ideas.
• Supportive approach to teamwork by swift and efficient delivery of innovative new products to patients and healthcare providers.
• Thorough knowledge of several main omics data types (e.g., genomics, proteomics, methylomics, transcriptomics etc.); experience in handling (preprocessing, annotating, analysing) the main file types associated with this large-scale data, and performing various types of analyses on the respective omics data.
• Technical proficiency in analytical and visualisation tools and statistical programming languages such as, R, R/shiny, Bash, Python, or similar.
• Experience with data sources with genetic content (e.g., gnomAD, TCGA, GTEx etc) and biobanks (e.g., UK Biobank, Genomics England, FinnGen, AACR Genie, etc.)
• Knowledge of applied statistics which includes, extensive experience in the application of statistical methods for data analysis including sensitivity analyses, dimension reduction (e.g., PCA, MDS, SVD), clustering, various types of regression models, analysis of genetic, biological, and healthcare-related data etc.

Desirable requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree (plus 11+ years’ experience) Or a master’s degree(plus 8+ years’ experience) or PhD(plus 7+ years’ experience) in a field such as bioinformatics, epidemiology, biostatistics, micro-econometrics, statistics, or similar
• Experience in conducting research in the pharma industry, contract research organisation, or academic institute; or experience in a closely related field within the pharma industry (e.g., bioinformatics, clinical research, statistics, epidemiology, pricing).
