Job Description

Job Purpose:

As a Medical Director, you will lead all aspects of in-country global and local medical/scientific activities including planning and alignment of resources for in-market or launch products as well as for registration and non-registration (Medical Affairs) clinical programs, scientific communication, the development of partnerships with investigators, medical opinion leaders as well as regulatory and reimbursement experts.
As a part of the leadership team at the country level the Medical Director will provide inputs/contribute to the country objectives.

Your responsibilities:

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Providing Leadership for the Medical Affairs Team, responsible for building state of the art Oncology and RLT expertise through coaching and personal development, talent acquisition and retention, training, performance management, execution and this in accordance with Novartis/AAA Values and Behaviours
• Function as key interface to key stakeholders in Global Drug Development (GDD) as well as Global Medical Affairs Team and Novartis UK Medical Affairs Team
• Be a strong & diverse voice in the AAA UK Leadership Team that contributes to the long-term success of the company. Continue to build a strong culture based on the company’s Core Values and Behaviors as well as collaborate across functions to develop Medical long-term strategy including new go-to-market models and to ensure best in class launches / support regulatory submission strategies.
• Work closely with GDD, global and local stakeholders for Phases I/II/III and Medical Affairs / Phase IV, to optimize all in-country clinical studies
• Ensure local input into global/regional clinical development and medical affairs programs through active collaboration with key customers and participation in key forums.
• Support training of Medical Advisors and Medical Scientific Liaisons in providing credible, convincing and actionable information to better engage with the medical community and internal decision makers. Oversees local publication of clinical trials and medical education programs.
• Responsible for resource planning and management (people as well as medical affairs budgets) across all franchises.
• Ensuring that all Medical Affairs related activities comply with the company’s standards, regulations and compliance requirements and follow good ethical practice
• Ensuring credibility and professionalism in all product communication activities and materials.
• Supporting promotional activities by reviewing and approving marketing materials to ensure compliance within UK regulatory framework
• Supporting commercial activities, such as conferences and key events as well as profiling of competitors as appropriate
• Continuously updating in-depth scientific and medical knowledge and be well informed about clinical trends and guidelines in oncology
• Maintaining high professional standards of conduct in line with the Company procedures with a duty of care to the reputation of the Company.

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
• In depth understanding UK pharmaceutical laws and regulations including MHRA and ABPI rules
• 10+ years of professional experience in a leadership role in the pharmaceutical industry (preferably in an Oncology)
• Outstanding leadership skills, resilience, high levels of cross functional collaboration and an ability to work strategically and operationally
• Strong project management skills
• Ability to work on multiple projects with short deadlines
• Understanding of legal and ethical issues related to promotion of new and existing products in the UK
