Job Description

6000! That’s the number of associates in the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR). This division is the innovation engine of Novartis, focusing on new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients. Join us in this mission and play a pivotal role to discover and produce innovative medicines across key therapeutic areas including oncology, immuno-oncology, cardiovascular and metabolic disease, immunoscience, neurology, and ophthalmology through multiple biologics therapeutic modalities.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Scientist II to join the characterization and formulation group located in Cambridge, MA. In this role, you will work on the development and implementation of biophysical and analytical, mass spectrometry, and formulation technologies and methodologies to advance our ability to support cell line, process, and product characterization of various biologics modalities for drug candidate screening and selection, and lead development.

What you’ll be doing:
• Develop and apply physico-chemical analytics methods for candidate characterization and lead candidate pre-formulation development of various formats of biotherapeutics in screening, lead optimization and development stages.
• Implement state-of-the art techniques for biophysical and analytical characterization of therapeutic antibodies, multi-specifics, ADCs, therapeutic proteins, cell and gene therapy, and emerging biotherapeutic modalities.
• Lead pipeline projects as analytical SME and provide technical expertise in functional and cross-functional teams to review physico-chemical analytics data and provide guidance on method development and candidate selection and characterization.
• Operate and maintain instrumentations, perform data analysis and ELN documentation, as well as author and/or review method development and technical reports.
• Present observations and results internally and at conference that meet and exceed industry standard.
• Interact and collaborate with colleagues in biologics across discovery and development organizations.

• Demonstrated expertise with in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience of analytical methods for protein attribute characterization (including but not limited to RP/HIC/SEC/IEX/CE), and sample processing techniques (enzymatic digestion, PCR, etc.).
• Knowledge of product and process quality attributes of biopharmaceuticals, vaccines, or cell and gene therapy.

• LC-MS experience.
• Experience in molecular biology techniques such as bioassays, affinity capture, Western Blot, Southern Blot, or microarray technology.
• Experience in biophysical & analytical method development for biopharmaceuticals, vaccines, or cell and gene therapy.
• Demonstrated scientific curiosity, problem-solving skills, and ability to design and execute experiments.

You’ll receive:
Competitive salary, annual bonus, pension scheme, share scheme, health insurance, 25 days annual leave, flexible working arrangements, subsidized dining facilities, employee recognition scheme and learning and development opportunities as well.
