The AI Innovation Center is the Novartis engine and go-to place for AI Innovation. From research through commercialization, we aim to transform discoveries and development medicines for patients worldwide using data science and AI. The AI Innovation Center is seeking a technical expert in AI to push the frontiers of research, development, and marketing of medicines. You will take on a technical lead role as an individual contributor in the Natural Language Processing (NLP) team of the AI Innovation Center, working at the intersection of research and real-world impact.

This opportunity is located at the Novartis Cambridge (MA) site and will not have the ability to be located remotely. Relocation assistance may be available.

What will you be responsible for (non-exhaustive list) ?
•Innovate and invent NLP methods to address challenges in all aspects of pharma
•Conduct end-to-end NLP analysis of large-scale data related to biomedical domain
•Take a hands-on role and deliver on highly visible projects
•Provide scientific and technical leadership (in an individual contributor capacity) through a proactive, unbossed approach
•Collaborate with cross-functional, cross-geographical, cross-divisional teams across Novartis
•Serve as an ambassador of Novartis Data Science and AI externally
•Co-author papers publish at top-tier conferences and journals
•Keep abreast of latest developments in the field

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role?
•An advanced degree (master’s or doctoral) in a computational field, including but not limited to Computer Science, Data Science, and Biomedical Informatics
•5+ years’ experience (if master’s level) or 0-2+ years’ experience (if PhD level) in developing AI models for NLP
•Deep, expert level Python programming experience
•Natural Language Processing hands-on experience or knowledge in areas such as : information extraction, information retrieval, question-answering, summarization, text classification, generative models
•Machine Learning hands-on experience or knowledge in areas such as: . pytorch, tensor flow, transformer models, BERT, transformers, deep learning, neural networks, recommender systems, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), Autoencoders
•Experience with biomedical and pharma data sets, and NLP methods
•Cross-industry experience and previous experience in either pharma, biotech or healthcare
•Proven ability to manage multiple projects, to be accountable for individual & team results
•Ability to build relationships, collaborate and influence across cross functional teams;
•Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
