Africa faces immense challenges when it comes to providing adequate healthcare to its people. Noncommunicable diseases such as cancer and diabetes are on the rise and many people continue to suffer from preventable and treatable infectious diseases, such as malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. In addition, low levels of awareness, a lack of healthcare infrastructure and poor distribution channels provide large-scale barriers.
At the first-ever Novartis Africa Day in Basel, Switzerland, Novartis senior executives discussed these challenges, as well as some of the latest Novartis commercial and corporate responsibility efforts in the region.
