Thalassemia refers to a diverse family of genetic disorders characterized by an underproduction of hemoglobin, a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen.

Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a more severe, progressive form of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The prevalence of NAFLD in Western countries is 20-30%, and it is estimated that 2-3% of the population has NASH.
