Las terapias avanzadas están diseñadas para detener una enfermedad en curso o revertir su progreso en lugar de limitarse a controlar los síntomas. Las células utilizadas en este tipo de terapias se cultivan o modifican fuera del cuerpo antes de inyectarse de vuelta en el paciente, donde se convierten en un “fármaco vivo”.

Hablamos de tratamientos únicos que pueden aliviar la causa subyacente de una enfermedad y tienen el potencial de curar ciertas afecciones. Por el contrario, muchos medicamentos convencionales deben tomarse de forma continuada durante semanas o meses, o incluso de por vida. En cambio, a menudo las terapias celulares y génicas cuentan con un sistema de administración de dosis única.

En esta nueva era de la medicina personalizada, este tipo de terapias ofrecen un valor para los pacientes, la sociedad y también para los sistemas sanitarios como opción individualizada de tratamiento transformador.
