About the role :

We're seeking candidates to join our Corporate Services Procurement Team as a Global Category Manager for Professional Services responsible for managing subcategories such as Consulting Services, Corporate Audit, Corporate Insurance, Tax, Translation, Document Management etc.

The Global Category Manager is responsible for all elements of the Source to Contract process, including business demand management, supplier management, competitive bidding, sourcing project management, negotiations, and contracting.

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for Global Category Management in the area of Professional Services (Consulting Services, Audit Services, Corporate Insurance, Tax, Translation, Document Management, etc,), for all Divisions across Novartis, ensuring delivery of measurable value through alignment of business requirements, strategic sourcing expertise, supplier market intelligence, financial productivity and mitigation of risk and development of Global Strategy, Governance and constant improvement and innovation initiatives.
  • Lead the implementation of sourcing plans for the category and deliver category savings targets following engagement in the target setting process.
  • Provide input into or lead the overall Category strategy about segmentation and identification of key supplier relationships, and lead business planning activities and ensure these projects are executed on a timely basis in line with the targeted goals.
  • Manage strategic category supplier relationships, and implement consistent key performance indicators for the category, ensuring that any supplier performance risks and issues are resolved on a timely basis to end user satisfaction.
  • Create, apply, complete and reviews major contracts for the category, and ensure that negotiated contracts are clearly communicated for the category area and that they are consistently applied.
  • Expertise in the respective category market levers, trends and main players as well as internal processes.
  •  Deriving game-changing strategies by defining clear category objectives, working with analytical data, business stakeholders and market expertise. Aligning strategies to measurable target and clearly conveying them to the organization

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Provide high value procurement solutions to the business and category strategies; support third party vendor selection, vendor development, technology management and performance measurement activities.
  • Ensure best-in-class delivery of external services and products in the category to support projects and to realize year-on-year productivity improvements, cost savings, and process improvements in close collaboration with the stakeholders in the business.
  • Collect supplier information and feedback from Divisions, countries, sites, Category teams and Business Partners, and deliver Procurement Balanced Scorecard metrics for the relevant subcategory.
  • Translate global divisional category strategy into global, divisional, subcategory strategy implementation and Leadership / Collaboration Strong influencer in decision-making process within and outside of procurement. Courageous, self-aware, and comfortable with “debate”, always looking for the best solution. Able to identify proactively and pursue new ideas and opportunities, acting as an innovation agent and modifying approach and behaviors as necessary to create value.
  • Mapping the value chain, analyzing it and deriving potential scenarios. Includes the understanding and application of total cost of ownership and should cost modelling. Mapping and analyzing the ecosystem, meaning how procurement's customers, stakeholders, suppliers, 3rd parties and even competitors play a role in ecosystems.
  • Compliance & risk management: supporting reports to determine appropriate compliance level. Monitoring end-to-end compliance (budget, payment, vendor PO, contract invoice, buying channel, etc.) and deriving corrective actions to improve compliance. Applying risk management processes including identifying and evaluating risks and defining and executing a risk mitigation plan.
  • Managing data analysis and reporting, e.g. analyzing spend, demand, supply markets and competitors. Extracting, cleansing and consolidating information to fact-based insights for further usage e.g. in category strategies.
  • Ability to navigate procurement tools. Expertise in the procurement data structure and procurement classification system for material, services, and suppliers.
  • Expertise in the procurement content (e.g. in contracts) and maintaining and updating Procurement applications (e.g. e-catalogs, user portal). Continuous improvement of procurement content and automation.
  • Strategy / Category management / Supplier management / Project management. Understanding Procurement vision based on insights into procurement leading practices. Linking Procurement strategy to Novartis’ overall strategy and conveying it clearly to the organization.
  • Change management: Embracing and shaping change as well as knowledge how to overcome challenges. Applying systematic change management methods to facilitate change.
  • Relationship management and business partnering: achieving results by proactively building long-term, sustainable and effective relationships, understanding the stakeholder landscape and demonstrating political astuteness across business structures and networks.

Desirable Requirements:

  • University/Advanced degree in Business Administration/Economics/Engineering is required and master’s degree/other advanced degree or equivalent experience in the supply chain management, business administration or similar is preferred.
  • 12+ years of Procurement and contracting experience, with 5+ years experience handling Professional Services Categories. Strong negotiation and analytical skills. Demonstrate proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to deal with C-Level stakeholders and solid experience in navigating in global, matrix organizations and across geographies and cultures
  • Extensive experience in sourcing processes (e.g. RFI/RFQ), negotiation strategies, project management, good communication and collaboration skills as well as market analysis capabilities to drive operational excellence
