The Chemical Biology and Therapeutics department at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research has an exciting opportunity for a Ph.D. level scientist to lead the high throughput mass spectrometry laboratory in the Screening Sciences group in Cambridge, USA.

As a member of the mass spectrometry laboratory, the candidate’s primary responsibility will be to develop, validate, and run high-throughput screens using MS-based detection. The candidate must be able to work independently, and contribute at the bench level, all while interfacing with and influencing biology collaborators. As part of early drug discovery research teams, the candidate will serve as a technical expert and provide clear direction and feedback to project teams, including the use of appropriate MS assays and interpretation of data.
Finally, the candidate will work with Screening Sciences leadership to identify current and future needs to build a technology roadmap for the lab.

• Ph.D. in analytical chemistry or equivalent field
• At least 5 years of experience analyzing a wide range of molecules including: nucleic acids, proteins, peptides, carbohydrates and lipids
• Experience in developing and implementing LC-MS/MS screening assays including troubleshooting of hardware, software and biology
• Experience developing and running MS-based binding assays
• Hands on experience with Triple quadrupole and Q-Tofs MS systems
• Deep expertise in separations and separation equipment
• Good understanding of basic enzymology
• Excellent interpersonal skills, able to analyze, interpret and present data in a clear fashion, and to manage a number of projects simultaneously
• Ability to work independently, innovatively and collaboratively in high-energy multidisciplinary teams
