Job Description

Engineer, plan, design, procure, build, program and install automation and controls relating to Process, Packaging and Facility. Troubleshoot and maintain automations systems for Process, Packaging and Facility. Manage engineering contractors and controls installers from concept to Validation completion. Responsible for controls project evaluation and management of assigned projects with minimal supervision. Plan and coordinate activities of designated projects to achieve goals and objectives of automation and controls issues and projects within predetermined constraints and funding by performing the following:
• Manage assigned projects for controls fabrication, installation and validation.
• Lead controls automation projects for evaluation, design review and implementation.
• Manage engineering firms, controls fabrication, contractors and validation efforts.
• Support Melville and Hicksville manufacturing with automation support services. Assist with management, training and technical oversight of junior associates.
• Create and develop electrical controls drawings, associated documents and operational procedures. Design, procure, document, manufacture and install controls systems as directed to support engineering projects.
• Create, develop and test, PC, PLC and HMI programs required for automation controls.
• Generate test specifications to validate hardware and controls software.
• Determine parameter sets for programmable equipment such as VFDs and temperature controls.
• Work closely with all areas of manufacturing and facilities for automation and controls troubleshooting and technical support.
• Provide operational training on Process, Packaging and Facility automation.
• Research new technologies for the on-going and continuous operation of all Process, Packaging and Facilities automation and controls, including possible travel to industry shows and exhibitions.
• Travel to vendor sites for Vendor Evaluations, Design Reviews and Factory Acceptance Testing.
• Adheres to all applicable procedures, cGMP’s, company policies, and all other quality or regulatory requirements (OSHA, DEA, FDA, EMEA, ANVISA, HS&E, etc.). Ensures all work is performed in a safe, effective manner, and in compliance with the appropriate industry and regulatory (FDA, DEA, OSHA) standards, and Departmental, Plant, and Corporate quality and Behavioral Based Safety (BBS) goals.
Note: This position may require the labeling, packaging or movement of hazardous (flammable, corrosive, toxic, etc.) waste within the facility. If so, this employee would be trained under OSHA’s HAZWOPER standard, 29 CFR 1910.120 as an 8-Hour first responder, 24-Hour incident commander, or a 40-Hour incident commander.
In lieu of HAZWOPER training, the employee will receive training on the requirements of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act pursuant to 40 CFR 265.16.
All employees that have received the above mentioned training upon hire will receive annual refresher training that covers the OSHA HAZWOPER standard and the requirements of RCRA.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have satisfactory visual acuity and color perception. Visual acuity and color blindness screenings may be used to screen applicants.
• Satisfactory visual acuity means at least 20/20 vision, corrected or uncorrected.
• Satisfactory color vision means ability to recognize traffic signals and devices showing the standard red, green, and amber traffic signals.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $92,800 and $139,200/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Minimum Requirements

• High School Diploma is required; Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is preferred.
• 4+ years relevant experience with Bachelor's Degree or 8+ years relevant experience without degree is required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and / or Microsoft Visio.
• Must be able to read, understand and generate electrical drawings, and various engineering documents.
• In depth knowledge and understanding of PLCs, Ladder Logic and other PLC languages along with in depth knowledge and understanding of runtime and PC based HMIs.
• Capability to generate PLC / HMI programs to execute assigned projects.
• Understanding of Process Automation, Temperature controls and PID loops.
• Proficient in the use of test and measurement equipment including but not limited to Digital Multi-Meter, Process Meter, Temperature measurement, Tachometer and Oscilloscope.
• Must be able to use a variety of power and hand tools for troubleshooting, repair and installation of electrical, electronic and electro-mechanical components.

• Understanding of AC and DC Motor controls with capability to specify, install and optimize parameter settings.
