6000! That’s the number of associates in the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR). This division is the innovation engine of Novartis, focusing on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients. NIBR Biologics Center (NBC) builds the cell and gene therapy pipeline in collaboration with NIBR Disease Areas and Platforms via a breadth of technologies for discovery of antibody, protein and gene therapy-based therapeutics.

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to join the Biotherapeutic Engineering and Gene Therapy (BEGT) group within NBC in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The BEGT group drives a diverse portfolio of modalities including therapeutic proteins, multi-specific antibodies, CAR-T, RNA therapeutics and AAV. Through innovative and rational protein design as well as cell and viral engineering, the BEGT group works collaboratively within NIBR to broaden the use of biologics into therapeutic applications where conventional antibodies have limitations.

What you’ll be doing: Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Support AAV production process development.
• Contribute to NBC’s viral production activities at research scale (discovery through NHP).
• Establish and perform in vitro cell based assays to support gene therapy research.
• Execute experiments independently to address key scientific questions.
• Explore new technologies and identity creative solutions.
• Assist with general laboratory maintenance and logistics.
• Work collaboratively to advance AAV platform and programs.
• Present research findings internally and externally to cross-functional teams
• Maintain a detailed electronic laboratory notebook.

This position will be located at the Cambridge, MA site and will not have the ability to be located remotely. This position will require 0% travel as defined by the business (domestic and/ or international).

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
• B.S in in Biology, Biochemistry or related field with at 5+ years of hands-on experience; M.S. in relevant field 3+ year hands-on experience; Ph.D in molecular/cell biology, biochemistry, virology ore related filed.
• Hands-on experience with a range of molecular biology techniques.
• Experience and knowledge in AAV biology and production.
• Detail-oriented, well-organized and collaborative with the ability to thrive in team settings.
• Highly collaborative spirit inside and outside of department to advance gene therapy platform from idea conception to technology application.
• Present scientific findings and conclusions.
Desirable
• Experience and knowledge AAV biology and production is a plus.
• Strong knowledge in protein engineering and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)
