Your responsibilities:
As part of the Global Communications team the Director, Media Relations is responsible for developing, aligning and implementing a comprehensive Company communications narrative and program/plan to drive coverage in key media (online/offline) and generate interest / positively position Sandoz among key external stakeholders. This role works cross-functionally with financial, product and portfolio communications among others, to support business objectives and help to differentiate Sandoz and build its global reputation.

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Responsible for envisioning, aligning and executing a strategic and forward-thinking media relations program. The program will integrate with the Sandoz purpose, differentiates the Company among the pharmaceutical industry and builds a positive global reputation among a variety of key stakeholders.
• Create an industry-leading newsroom that incorporates visualization and digital storytelling to ensure consistent, ongoing, and equity building company and executive presence in the media (traditional and online), at key conferences and events, etc.
• Act as company spokesperson, aligned with global head, External Affairs, as appropriate. Answer media inquiries, be the first point of contact for all incoming media inquiries, draft statements in consultation with relevant departments, Legal and Global, ensure prompt processing of inbound media requests to place corporate messages.
• Prep senior executives for interviews and events with briefing materials.
• Constantly monitor, oversee and analyze media trends and metrics to determine overall Company positioning, anticipate and manage issues facing our business. Create and implement overarching media strategies and media materials including press releases, fact sheets, standby statements, QA, media inquiries. Make recommendations to improve media relations on an ongoing basis.
• Along with NVS media relations and financial communications, determine key reporters and media outlets and build strong relationships.
• Liaise with Digital Lead and other content providers to support social media activities in planning, creation of posts for various social media channels such as Twitter or facebook, provision of content and language rules.
• Support the German organization and act as point person for media inquiries and issues management, as required.
• Agency and budget management, as appropriate.

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
• Post-secondary degree in communications, journalism, or related field
• Minimum of 10 years of media relations, journalism, publishing experience or related field in a major corporation or public relations agency required
• Excellent English language skills required – oral and written; fluent in German; fluency in other languages, such as French, an advantage
• Social media, content development and project management experience required; strong writer with a proven track record and passion for communicating clear, concise and compelling messages
• Experience working in a multi-cultural, diverse, international environment (preferably in the pharmaceuticals industry) and excellent relationship management and influencing skills; experience preferred in product communications, issues/crisis management
• Demonstrated ability to be successful providing guidance and counsel to senior stakeholders, gain credibility and buy-in of senior management.
• Strong business acumen, ability to multi-task and balance multiple as well as tight deadlines; ability to review and derive insights from metrics etc.
• Occasional travel required
