Every day, we - as a leading Generics & Biosimilars Company (within Novartis) dating back to 1886 – incessantly work to broaden the Generics use further to improve the health of patients in Switzerland while making the Swiss Healthcare system more financially sustainable; this always in close collaboration with our Swiss Healthcare system partners.

As Head Legal at Sandoz Switzerland, you provide legal leadership through pro-active, in-depth, business-focused advice to the entity, as well as implementing initiatives and processes to keep and set standards and continue a culture of quality, integrity, ethical behavior, and responsibility. You are a member of the Sandoz Leader-ship Team (SLT) and provide strategic direction and thought leadership in various areas of the law relevant to the SLT in Switzerland, directly counselling associates at all levels in this entity. You are responsible to analyze and identify legal risks and implications, keeping the management informed of all new laws and regulations that may have potential implications for the entity. You are also supporting the entity in IP matters and closely collaborates with internal and external IP lawyers.

Your responsibilities include, but not limited to:

• Leads continuation and implementation of key legal processes. Develops, recommends, and implements internal legal policies, procedures, and guidelines
• Manages legal risks by taking primary responsibility for the provision of legal advice and the management of legal risk, advising on all legal areas affecting the product lifecycle, providing strategic and operational guidance. Leading and assisting in the management of litigation and instructing of external legal counsels
• Monitors and assess the relevant environmental issues impacting legal risk in order to ensure recommended legal risk management approaches are appropriate with regard to the prevailing environment. Advises on all activities relating to the statutory obligations by providing legal advice and assistance to the local management. Informs Global/Region/SLT of areas which represent a legal risk and keeps them updated regarding key legal issues.
• Adopts an active approach by providing day-to-day legal services required to meet the business needs. Acts as a business partner and business focused to negotiate and draft basic transactions and contracts. Assists in management decision processes with robust risk with close collaboration with compliance
• Supports and monitors work outside legal counsels, managing disputes, litigation, and investigations. Advise on local/regional public announcements and promotional material relating to specific products or alliances. Responsible for setting legal priorities, assuring quality and consistency of legal advice for developing standards
• Manages the budget and resource allocation for the legal activity as needed and in alignment with the Country Head
• Ensures allegations of misconduct are reported in a timely manner to the BPO. If possible and as requested, support/conduct investigations of alleged misconduct based on allocation of responsibility by the BPO. Shares legal knowhow on relevant laws, codes of practice and business legal issues and assists in the development and delivery of training to management on legal issues affecting the con-duct of the Swiss business

Minimum Requirements

• Graduate degree in Law / Admission to the (Swiss) Bar
• + 5 years professional experience in Legal function, of which ideally 3-5 years in a law firm with exposure to the Swiss healthcare and pharma law
• Background in commercial law or commercial litigation (including IP), who can analyze complex legal issues, can master Legal Excellence Standards, and committed to high performance and integrity
• Desirable experience in identifying and advising on anti-trust questions, preferably for innovator or generics business
• Proficiency in German and English (written and spoken), good knowledge of French is an advantage
