By 2023, Patient Specialty Services [PSS] is projected to support over 1.4 Million patients and impact nearly $4B of Novartis’s US Pharma revenue. PSS provides mission critical support to Novartis brands by helping patients prescribed Novartis products with assistance to address any access challenges and get on medications needed to improve their health.

The creation of an internal Patient Support Center is a strategic priority for US Innovative Medicines. The PSS team is uniquely positioned to help support our goal of providing appropriate medications to twice as many patients twice as fast.

The Associate Director Payer Analyst will support the Reimbursement Specialist team by providing the current payer landscape that impacts the products and patients that we support. The Payer Analyst will independently monitor and analyze payer trends and communicate results with the appropriate internal stake holders. This role is committed to helping our Patient Support Center teams to assist customers by improving delivery of medication access information.

Working under the Director, Analytics and Effectiveness LEAP, the Payer Analyst is responsible for managing all aspects of payer and contracting impacts of Novartis products. This role collaborates closely with the Reimbursement and Care Navigator leadership team to support patient access. Additional collaboration is expected with others such as analytics, Field Reimbursement, and other account-focused market access partners.

This position will be located at East Hanover, NJ site and will not have the ability to be located remotely. This position may require up to 20% travel as defined by the business (domestic and/ or international). Please note that this role would not provide relocation assistance/support.

What will you be responsible for ?
• Responsible for fully understanding payer contracts and payment policies along with possessing strong analytical skills to ensure proper reimbursement/coverage
• Independently monitors and analyzes payer trends and delivers monthly payer performance reports
• Responsible for development and maintenance of library of information/tools related to documentation guidelines and communicates this information to applicable teams
• Leads the effort with payer specific training of new hires and continuing payer specific education of existing Reimbursement Team
• Periodically review payer adjudication vs policy to identify gaps in coverage
• Develops effective quality control processes to ensure data integrity
• Reviews, analyzes and approves agent or field generated payer intelligence
• Participates in activities that improve department operations and/or support to the department for quality improvements
• Partner with PSS CEC Analytics Lead to create custom analytics relating to any of the above and special projects as requested
• Participate in and contributing to the continuous process improvement efforts and standardization of reimbursement processes and methods

Minimum Requirements

What You’ll Bring to the Role:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree (business, healthcare, or related program) required, Master’s in Business Administration, preferred
• 5 years of related payer analyst experience
• Comprehensive knowledge of patient coverage and access in healthcare or payer industries
• Expertise in commercial and government insured patient reimbursement including prior authorization, benefit investigation and verification, appeals, and payer policies and procedures with both pharmacy and medical benefit products
• Prior knowledge and experience with payer contracts, appeals, offset, and forwarding balance
• Highly proficient in data analysis and ability to synthesize and integrate multiple data sources and interpret findings. Experience with data wrangling in SQL, R or python a plus
• Experience working with data visualization tools such as Qlik or Spotfire a plus
• Excel in problem solving and develop innovative, resourceful solutions to complex, unstructured problems Acute attention to detail and strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• Strong strategic thinking and ability to drive results, and grow with the evolving PSS landscape
• Travel as required
Preferred Experience:
• Experience working in Pharma or hub services Patient Services or Market Access
• Experience supporting a Patient Services contact center
