The Chemical Biology and Therapeutics (CBT) department at the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR), merges groundbreaking technical capabilities with deep scientific expertise to deliver bold innovations at the forefront of science. As a member of the CBT Operations Team, you will be a critical resource within the organization to manage lab operations and enable the development of novel drug targets and new therapeutics.

We are seeking a hands-on, Lab Manager to help support the dynamic operations of a large research department. The successful candidate must be a collaborative teammate who is motivated, organized, self-directed, and capable of handling a variety of tasks in a global and highly matrixed environment. A candidate willing to infuse creativity into operational tasks is strongly desired.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

- Be an enabling force in the support of CBT scientists to resolve operational challenges, manage issues and navigate complexity. Proactively lead initiatives and design key operational programs, especially with cross-functional groups of users and support functions.

- Find then realize opportunities for operational excellence by understanding the scientific workflow in CBT to improve operational efficiencies, sustainability, logistics, and business processes. Some financial analysis may be required.

- Establish and maintain relationships with CBT researchers and the NIBR Operations community to ensure alignment and execution of departmental and NIBR objectives. Operate within a matrix-based organization of support functions and third party vendors to provide effective support of CBT and NIBR operations. Be a leading participant in the NIBR Cambridge Lab Logistics community.

- Drive the execution and implementation of space related strategies within the local campus. Work with scientists to ensure full compliance with Health Safety & Environment program, business continuity, sustainability initiatives and other compliance programs.

- Lead the ordering, delivery, and installation of lab equipment including complex, integrated systems. Advance department’s lab equipment management through knowledge of equipment technologies, maintenance, utilization, and life cycle management.

Minimum Requirements

What You'll Bring to the Role:

- B.S. or M.S. degree in a scientific or management discipline with 3+ years in a lab operations capacity or 5+ years working in a biology or chemistry research environment.

- A user-oriented mentality and experience supporting others – specifically motivated to enable all of our associates with a track record of building relationships and engaging others in work.

- Strong matrix leadership, collaboration, and organizational skills are required. Must be solution oriented with comfort to exercise independent discretion and judgment to solve problems and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

- Project management, operational excellence, and design thinking skillsets with experience initiating and leading assignments with a proven ability to positively impact project goals.

- Strong information management and digital skillset that includes advanced knowledge of SharePoint, MS Teams, OneNote, Excel macros, and related systems.
