Job Description

1 Global Discovery Chemistry community, working across seven disease areas at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR), is seeking a creative and curious chromatographer with expertise in SFC and HPLC purification processes to join the Global Discovery Chemistry Analytics and Separations Group in Cambridge, MA.

In partnership with research and discovery chemistry, the Separations Team confronts the challenging task of purifying and characterizing molecules ranging from traditional small molecules to novel conjugated biotherapeutics. We are looking for individuals with expertise in providing solutions to challenging analytical, separations, and purifications problems in drug discovery. You will work in a highly collaborative team environment, developing analytical and preparative methods for the analysis and purification of achiral and chiral drug discovery molecules.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Support of medicinal chemistry projects across a variety of disease areas and purification of chemically diverse substrates that include small molecules, peptides, and conjugated biotherapeutics.

- A specific focus on analytical method development and preparative chromatography techniques, including SFC-MS, NP-HPLC, and RP-HPLC-MS.

- Utilize additional analytical methods such as SEC, HIC, NMR, MS/MS, and Tecan automation.

- Juggle several parallel workflows while communicating and collaborating with chemists.

- Work closely with medicinal and analytical chemists as well as scientists from a diverse range of disciplines within NIBR.

- Identify and pursue new projects and technologies that directly impact drug discovery research.

Minimum Requirements

What you will bring to the role:

- Expertise in modern chromatography methods, technologies, and in-depth experience with chromatography and preparative SFC and HPLC purifications.

- Strong technical skills in the operation and maintenance of chromatographic instrumentation and software.

- Expertise with Tecan liquid handling and Freedom Evoware software.

- Strong skills in data analysis, interpretation, management, and software skills.

- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Desirable requirements:

- A Bachelors or Masters in Chemistry or Chemistry-related field with at least 5 years of relevant industry experience purifying compounds in a drug discovery environment.

- Specific experience in operating SFC and HPLC analytical and preparative instrumentation.
