This role introduces and activates the use of effective behavioral research frameworks and tools within the Integrated Insights team of Novartis US Innovative Medicines. As a Director of Behavioral Science, you will lead a change in how we interact, observe, and learn from customers and patients, helping us enable the successful adoption of products and treatments that fit with people’s habits and behaviors. You will work across the DIA organization to lead new ways of planning and executing research, empowering teams to engage with people in highly relevant, meaningful moments and situations across their health journey. You will embed practical, effective behavioral research solutions that help uncover true drivers of why people do (or don’t) take the steps that lead to successful outcomes.

This Director has a passion for uncovering the real drivers of people’s choices by exploring the environment in which choices are made and identifying the controllable and uncontrollable factors that determine outcomes. This role focuses on helping us create meaningful change in people’s lives, leading to positive results for consumers, customers, and the company. To succeed, this role actively assesses the Integrated Insights team’s strengths and opportunities, and delivers a plan for embedding high-impact behavioral research methods. As a “Player/Coach”, this role works closely with the Integrated Insights teams to challenge them, support new skills, implement new approaches, and generate highly impactful behavioral insights. This person will define development goals, provide formal training, and support team members as they execute new methods. The role will also develop productive relationships with external thought leaders to identify and apply new approaches.

This role reports to the Executive Director, DIA Capabilities for Novartis Innovative Medicines US, and is a key partner as our organization shifts to a more customer-focused, integrated, research design. In collaboration with the Executive Director, DIA Capabilities, this role will define and deliver new ways of working that elevates our performance and is accountable for the following:


Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Identify and implement behavioral research methods that enable the team to identify, study, and determine drivers of desired/undesired customer and/or consumer behaviors in key situations/contexts which impact Novartis’ products and services.
• Develop and deliver a behavioral insights training agenda that balances traditional and experiential learning and results in consistent elevation of skill across the Integrated Insights team.
• Design and coach research/experiments driven by hypotheses, analytics, and statistical modeling to deep-dive systemic and individual level drivers; leveraging quantitative and qualitative data to inform research.
• Develop productive external partnerships among thought leaders in order to continue to advance Novartis’ capabilities by being at the leading edge of behavioral research methods.
• Develop high-quality, evidence-based presentations and communication documents that provide insights to business leaders and gain stakeholder buy-in.
• Work with Executive Director, DIA Capabilities and DIA Integrated Insights leaders to develop and align on priorities for identifying and implementing new behavioral research methodologies and tools.
• Engage with Integrated Insights team members to ensure strong alignment and collaboration to deliver results.

“The ideal location for this role is our East Hanover site but remote work may be possible (there may be some restrictions based on legal entity). Please note that this role would not provide relocation as a result. If associate is remote, all home office expenses and any travel/lodging to specific East Hanover site for periodic live meetings will be at the employee’s expense. The expectation of working hours and travel (domestic and/or international) will be defined by the hiring manager. This position may require up to 20% travel. This is a US based position. No international relocation will be provided for this position. ”

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
• 7+ years of related Experience (Pharma/Life Sciences Preferred).
• 5+ years of experience in consumer insights background is required, with expertise within behavioral science preferred.
• Demonstrated experience as an insights professional to lead the development and implementation of behavioral research solutions that increase the effectiveness of Integrated Insights teams.
• Proven teamwork, collaboration, and people management skills with demonstrated success in building, developing, and leading a high-performing teams and culture
• Must possess an ability to foster cross-functional alignment of key stakeholders to enable adoption of new ways of working and tools.
• Deep experience in consumer insights, including an application of behavioral and psychological re-search methodologies.
• Demonstrated proficiency in work force planning and leading change management initiatives
• Have successfully navigated large organizations and can demonstrate the development of others
• Works effectively across functions as a team player to seamlessly help to achieve common goals without hierarchy, politics, or self-interest
• Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, multifunctional team environment
• Strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and team orientation
• Strong organization skills, detail oriented and customer focused
