The Biotherapeutics Department, Structural Biology Group is looking for a highly motivated Research Scientist, skilled in Protein Science to support computational and experimental Protein Design on novel protein biotherapeutics. The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to characterize computational engineered proteins via high-throughput protein expression, purification and biophysics.

Primary responsibilities:
• Small and medium scale protein production for utilization in biophysics, assay and structure applications.
• Experimental support for the development of computational protein design methodologies and assays.
• Communication and presentation of scientific and technical work to colleagues.
• Collaboration with scientific teams across the San Diego and global Novartis sites

Minimum Requirements

What you will bring to the role:
• BS in biochemistry or related field
• 2 years of experience with molecular biology techniques.
• Expertise in E. coli protein expression. Knowledge of other expression systems such as yeast, mammalian or insect is advantageous but not required
• A practical understanding of protein purification techniques and instrumentation (gravity, FPLC, HPLC, NTA, SEC and RP )
• Familiarity of biophysical methods (SPR, CD, light scattering, ITC and DSC ) and laboratory automation is preferred.
• High degree of self-motivation and attention to detail
• Strong organizational and time management skills

Desired Qualifications:
• MS in biochemistry or related field
• 2 years of experience with molecular biology techniques
