At the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) in Basel, Switzerland, we are at the core of Novartis’ purpose, designing and making new molecules for treating patients. We are looking for a highly motivated Chemist, with strong Team player attitude to join us in the position of a Specialist I - Open Access Analytics! You will be a key member of the Lab Operations global Open Access sub-function that is an automated analytical support, which includes the analysis of proteins, peptides, and small molecules by mass spectrometry. This position will interface with the scientists and supporting NIBR functions, including Health, Safety & Environment, Facilities and Real Estate, IT/Nx, Procurement, and Finance. We are looking for individuals like you, who are highly organized, self-directed and capable of handling a variety of tasks in a complex business environment! You will be responsible for service delivery and support of the LC/MS platform as well as service development. Join our amazing team in NIBR and help reimagine medicine!

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Ensure daily delivery of the Open Access LC/MS platform
• Act as point of contact for second level troubleshooting that requires deep understanding of subject and methodology
• Writing, distribution, collection, storage, and maintenance of documentation
• Standardization/global harmonization of analytical system set-up and methodology
• Contribute to innovative projects for Open Access platform evolution
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with NIBR researchers as well as with third party service providers to ensure alignment and execution of departmental and Scientific Operations objectives
• Identify opportunities and collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve operational efficiencies, logistics, and business processes
• Apply operational excellence and sustainability in projects

Minimum Requirements

• B.S. or M.S. degree in a scientific discipline, such as analytical chemistry or biochemistry
• 5+ years of combined experience working in a research lab with LC/MS, experience in managing lab operations is a plus
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent written and oral communication skills are essential (English is a must), with ability to present information to scientific customers
• Ability to exercise independent discretion and judgment to solve problems is important, as well as to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
• Good understanding of the processes and protocols required in a scientific research organization.
• Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required. Experience with SharePoint and Teams is preferred.
• Strong drive for operational and digital excellence, ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced drug discovery environment with positivity and persistence regardless of challenges
• Enthusiasm for drug discovery and dedication to working in a team-oriented environment to contribute to shared project and organizational goals
