196 million! That is how many people are affected globally by age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which is a leading cause of vision loss for older adults. As many as 11 million people in the United States have some form of AMD. This number is expected to double to nearly 22 million by 2050.

Help us reach more patients by joining the Ophthalmology AMD group, an early-stage drug discovery team, focused on identifying and leveraging novel disease mechanisms for the identification, development, and optimization of transformative AMD therapeutics.

We are seeking a highly motivated, creative, and collaborative experienced scientist to join our Ophthalmology Department and support our innovative drug discovery and development programs.

Your responsibilities include, but not be limited to:

•Lead highly innovative projects, guide the validation and development of transformative therapeutic programs from conception to candidate selection and through early clinical development.
•Interface with complementary internal groups, external partners, and collaborators to identify original targets, develop new therapeutic strategies, and guide teams to critical "go" or "no go" decisions.
•Actively mentor and manage associates with relevant expertise.
•Effectively communicate within a cross-functional and multidisciplinary matrix.
•Maintain knowledge of relevant fields and technologies to support and broaden projects/efforts.
•Document, analyze, interpret, and present scientific experiments and technical work.
•Contribute to the group organization, productivity, and prioritization through collaboration, training, and idea exchange.

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:

•PhD in Biology or related field with a minimum of 4+ years of full time academic or industry laboratory experience, or MS with 6+ years of full time academic or industry laboratory experience. The level of the position will be commensurate with experience.
•Extensive expertise in ocular science, immunobiology, age-related diseases or related field required.
•Prior experience in vision research and retinal degeneration is an asset but not required.
•Knowledge and hands-on experience in the fields of immunometabolism, mitochondria metabolism, biology of aging is a plus.
•Experience utilizing and/or developing disease models is preferred.
•Technical experience with ESC/iPCS culture systems, heterotypic signaling, molecular biology techniques and/or mitochondrial function analysis is a plus.
•Demonstrated excellent communication skills, and strong publication record.
•Self-motivation, strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
•Experience managing direct reports and leading project teams is preferred.
